Here are the top three stories in Winchester today:

  1. The City of Winchester will hold a public comment period between Jul. 7-Aug. 7 regarding a potential polling place change. The proposed ordinance would change the location of the Rolling Hills Precinct of the Fourth Ward — currently at Victory Church on Middle Road — to the Youth Development Center on Battaile Drive. Those wishing to submit feedback or read more about the prospective ordinance can do so online. (City of Winchester VA via Twitter)
  2. Winchester Parks and Recreation will be hosting an Independence Day Eve celebration on Monday, Jul. 3. The festivities begin with a pool party at the Jim Barnett Park Outdoor Pool, with swimming available from 12:00-8:30 p.m. There will also be music at the park’s ball fields starting at 6:30 p.m., where you can save your spot for the 9:20 p.m. fireworks show. Please note that no alcohol or outside fireworks are permitted, and there will be no rain date. (Winchester VA Parks and Recreation via Facebook)
  3. If your little one loves all things transportation, they won’t want to miss the Touch a Truck & Open House at Winchester Public Services from 5:30-8:00 p.m. Kids are invited to explore the City of Winchester’s trucks and buses, watch glass crusher demonstrations, and even “paint a plow.” The event also serves as an opportunity for the community to see the new Public Services building at City Yards.
