JAILED THIS MONTH: Berkshire criminals sent behind bars in May

From drug dealers to paedophiles, here are some of the people who were sent behind bars last month:

A PAEDOPHILE pensioner who plied a young boy with heroin and booze before raping him has finally been jailed. 

David Morgan would lure the troubled teen to his car and would supply him with drugs before having ‘his way’ with him, Reading Crown Court heard. 

The 80 year old, of Redlands Road in Reading, pleaded guilty to raping and sexually assaulting an 18-year-old man in 1997.

He was sentenced to 13 and a half years  at Reading Crown Court on Tuesday, May 2.

A READING man has received a prison sentence after assaulting a woman.

Ben Lyden, of Helmsdale Close, was found guilty of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and was sentenced at Reading Crown Court on Friday (April 28).

The 35-year-old was given an 18-month jail sentenced suspended for two years for the offence which happened on November 20 last year.

Lyden was also ordered to undergo alcohol abstinence monitoring for 120 days and to comply with electronic monitoring for six months.

TWO drug dealers have been jailed for running a Class A drug line in Slough.

Yasin Sharif, 28, of Kitchener Road, Slough, was jailed for 45 months after being charged with two counts of dealing heroin and cocaine between September 21 and November 15 last year.

His co-defendant Hamza Mohamed, of Waterbeach Road, Slough, was jailed for 33 months for the same two counts.

The 25-year-old was also charged on four separate counts of assaulting emergency workers and failing to surrender for court bail and was sentenced for a further six months.

TWO men have been jailed after an ‘industrial amount’ of cannabis was found being produced in Reading and across the UK.

On February 3, 2021, Thames Valley Police stormed 18 addresses in Reading as well as seven addresses across Blackburn, Sunderland, Birmingham and London, in a major drug bust tackling organised crime.

Several arrests were made and multiple people have been charged and sentenced since. Among them is Vladimir Mardeda and Jahi Holmes who were jailed today (May 12) after a hearing at Reading Crown Court.

The pair were sentenced for the main count of conspiracy to produce Class B drugs – namely cannabis.

Mardeda, who Judge Amjad Nawaz labelled as have a ‘leading role’ in the operation, was jailed for 12 years.

Holmes was described as have a ‘lower than lead role’ but still played a ‘significant’ part in the operation and was jailed for eight years.

A ROBBER has been jailed for eight years after stealing £600,000 in cash from Lloyds Bank in Woodley.

Dressed in a black balaclava and puffer jacket, Shaun Atkins threatened three bank tellers to open a safe in Crockhamwell Road on January 18 this year.

The 40-year-old stole about £370,000, €270,000 and $550 in cash from the safe before running to the car park opposite the bank.

He was then tasered by a police constable after trying to flee from the officers and was subsequently arrested.

At Reading Crown Court on Monday (May 22), he was jailed for eight years – reduced from 12 years for pleading guilty.

A WOMAN has been jailed after police caught her with 23 wraps of Class A drugs hidden inside Kinder Eggs.

Nadine Jemmott, of no fixed abode, was sentenced to 32 months imprisonment at Reading Crown Court on Monday (May 15) for four counts of possession with intent to supply.

She was caught by on January 30 this year dealing to multiple people in Franklin Street.

The 39-year-old had about £500 worth of cocaine and heroin hidden in Kinder Egg packaging as well as £105 in cash and a burner phone.
