Manchester United takeover news LIVE Glazers ‘blocking’ Sheikh Jassim plans and Ratcliffe latest

The Manchester United takeover process rumbles on, over seven months after the club was put up for sale.

The Glazers announced they would be exploring ‘strategic alternatives’ for investment late last year, which paved the way for a lengthy bidding process. The two frontrunners remain Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani and Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Reports suggest that both offers from the wealthy businessmen are north of £5.5billion, but speculation that the former is preparing for exclusivity talks has been shot down. The summer transfer window is now open and while Premier League rivals are getting on with business, United are left in financial limbo.

United supporters’ frustrations have now reached an all-time high and reports suggesting that the Glazers will still be at the helm by the time next season kicks off have infuriated many. The whole saga needs bringing to a close, one way or another, sooner rather than later.

Follow below for all of the day’s updates on the takeover situation.

Ratcliffe has already delivered his verdict on the Glazers

British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe has already praised both Joel and Avram Glazer amid his interest in completing a takeover of United.

Sheikh Jassim’s plans to shake up United if he wins takeover battle

Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim wants to secure 100 per cent control of United if his takeover bid proves to be successful.

In the opposing corner, however, Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants to secure a majority stake, meaning the Glazers would not be out of the picture completely. But regardless of who wins, changes would not be in short supply at Old Trafford.

Here, our man Josh Smith has taken a close look at what might happen if Sheikh Jassim wins the takeover race.

Sheikh Jassim’s bid ‘more favourable’ to the Glazers

According to Reuters reporter Anirban Sen, the Glazers view Sheikh Jassim’s bid to buy United ‘more favourable’ than Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s.

The Qatari and Ratcliffe have established themselves as the favourites in the takeover race, though they plan to complete a different kind of takeover. Sheikh Jassim wants full control of the club while Ratcliffe wants a majority stake.

Sen, as quoted by Stretty News, told Stretford Paddock:

“Sheikh Jassim’s bid is still viewed slightly more favourably by the Glazers at this point, that’s what our sources have told us. And I think the big question is whether they finally managed to get the deal over the finish line over the next few weeks or maybe months. So there’s a bit of uncertainty on when exactly the deal gets signed but we’ve been told that all parties are still in the mix.”

Neville not fussed over who completes United takeover

Former United captain Gary Neville has admitted that he doesn’t mind who completes a takeover at Old Trafford, so long as the Glazers’ premiership soon comes to an end.

British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani have established themselves as the favourites. Neville, speaking yesterday, said:

“I don’t mind, I genuinely don’t. I’d like the Glazers to leave in full, even now with how they’re dealing with the sale process, which means it’s ultimately dragged out. “

Sheikh Jassim ‘might buy Tottenham’ if United takeover fails

According to ESPN journalist Mark Ogden, Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim and the Qataris might switch their focus to trying to buy Tottenham Hotspur if their hopes of purchasing United fail.

Ogden told The United Stand:

“They want the Premier League footprint. Somebody told me recently, they said that if the Qataris don’t buy Man United, they’ll be back, and they might end up buying Tottenham.”

Glazers ‘blocking’ Sheikh Jassim’s transfer plans

According to a report by the Express, prospective United owner Sheikh Jassim has been informed of two “no-brainer” transfers he can make if he secures ownership of the club.

The Qatari banker is desperate to purcahse United from the Glazer family and has already vowed to invest in almost every area of the club. However, it has been suggested that the Glazers are ‘blocking’ the Qatari rom making those additions.

Glazers urged to make quick United takeover decision

Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha has urged the Glazers to make a quick decision on the takeover after admitting Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani’s bid was ‘exciting’.

In November, United’s owners announced they would be exploring options for further investment in the Reds. As time passed, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim hit the front of the race.

While Ratcliffe is proposing a bid which would seal 60 per cent of the Reds for himself, Sheikh Jassim is wanting a full takeover of the club. In a chat with Compare Bet, Saha admitted he would lean towards the Qatari banker’s offer but the priority was to get the deal done to help Ten Hag in the transfer window.
