Mystery surrounds death of ‘wonderful’ man found dead at North Staffordshire home

Mystery surrounds the death of a ‘wonderful’ man found dead by his brother at his North Staffordshire home. Andrew Washington was found dead at his house in Knypersley.

An inquest at North Staffordshire Coroner’s Court heard on Friday Andrew, known as Andy, had been found by his brother at his property in Coronation Avenue. He was found face down in his bed on July 23, 2022 – but a cause of death could not be confirmed.

Following the hearing, sister Jill Hodgkinson paid tribute to her brother saying: “He was a wonderful brother. All his family will miss him deeply.”

In a statement read out by coroner Mr Daniel Howe, a spokesperson for the coroner’s office said: “He was found by his brother at 14.05. There had been concern as he had been seen for a few days. He lived alone. His brother came into his bedroom and found he was face down on his bed and cold to touch. He called 999.

“He used drugs for medication. There was a 100ml empty bottle of methadone. Andy’s GP said he had been in on October 4 with lower back pain, anxiety and depression.

“Speaking to his sister, they found that Andy had army experience. He had trouble in his life after losing members of his family. He had anxiety and depression. He had his good days and bad days.”
