Swinbrook: The stunning Cotswold village where time seems to stand still

Oxfordshire is full of history and greenery, and sitting right on the edge of the Cotswolds makes it the ideal place for an array of quaint villages that are worthy of being on a postcard. As recent years have seen many of us grow tired of the hustle and bustle of city life, the county is perfect for those wishing for a weekend away in the quiet countryside.

If rolling hills and stunning villages are what you need this summer, Oxfordshire is the place to be. With stunning Cotswold villages, traditional English pubs and more, there is a variety of things to do and see at your fingertips.

It is no wonder that many celebrities choose to settle down in Oxfordshire’s countryside; with bigger houses and land available to you and nature right on your doorstep, it is easy to see the appeal that these villages have. One village that has stood the test of time and seemed to keep its pretty countryside appeal is Swinbrook.

The village’s quiet and charming nature is also reinforced by the 2011 Census, which recorded the parish population as a tiny 139. Sat along the River Windrush, the village of Swinbrook is known for its stone buildings and wall that has apparently been untouched for generations.

It is a typical English village with a pretty church, a wooden pavilion and dating back to the 17th century. Complete with a stone bridge crossing the river, you will feel like time stands still in this idyllic setting.

The local pub and restaurant, The Swan Inn is extremely popular with locals and visitors alike and has even been named by The Guardian as one of the best 20 of its kind found by a body of water. Guests are also welcome to stay on-site, with a number of bedrooms available for the night.
