✍️ Report: Sheffield United U21s 4-0 Bristol City Under-21s

The Young Robins fell to the Blades at Bramall Lane in the Professional Development League 2 Play-off Semi-finals.

A hat-trick from opposing striker William Osula and an opener from Louie Marsh saw Sheffield United claim victory against the Reds.

Saves from Harvey Wiles-Richards made up the highlights for City, with the Young Robins fighting to stay in what would be the final game of another promising season for the Academy.

📝 BACKGROUND

City came into the game off the back of a 3-1 defeat to Coventry City at the Robins HPC in their final league game of the campaign.

Sheffield United beat Ipswich Town in their last game with a solid 2-0 away win.

City had played the Blades three times already this season, losing on the road but beating them at home in the Premier League Cup and drawing 0-0 in the other fixture in BS8.

✍️ WHAT HAPPENED?

The first half looked promising for City as they began positively.

Duncan Idehen had the first real effort on goal with a looping header which brushed the roof of the net.

However, just 10 minutes in, the hosts opened the scoring as Joe Low gave the ball away to Louie Marsh who tucked the ball home.

Chances from Ben Acey and Low followed with the former dragging wide and the skipper forcing a save from the Blades’ keeper.

United were the more clinical however, and doubled their lead just before the break through William Osula.

⏱ HALF-TIME

City came out for the second half determined to find an avenue back into the game.

They had their biggest chance of the game through substitute Ephraim Yeboah who struck the post, and a mix-up with Elijah Morrison, as both of the players went for the same ball, saw the rebound fly wide of the target.

Wiles-Richards did his best to keep the visitors in it with a big save to deny Osula, with the striker blazing another effort over the crossbar with just moments later.

Osula eventually got his second of the afternoon in the 67th minute to put his side three goals to the good.

It only took four minutes for the Blades’ No. 9 to secure his hat-trick as he slotted the ball assuredly past Wiles-Richards to put the game to bed.

The Reds’ keeper kept his head up despite the flurry of goals and made some crucial stops as the match ticked on, including an impressive double save.

The whistle finally blew in Sheffield to deny City, who can look back on a positive season which has seen the squad develop with many having first team experience in training or on matchday.
