.3 million in criminal justice grants announced for local communities

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — More than $1.3 million in state grants that aim to uplift communities, combat substance abuse and revolutionize the local criminal justice system have been announced for the Lehigh Valley.

  • More than $1.3 million in grants were announced for local non-profits and county governments in the Lehigh Valley
  • Grants will address community well-being, substance abuse treatment and the efficiency of the criminal justice systems in the region
  • Wilson Area LINCS Family Center, St. Luke’s Hospital and Lehigh County are among the recipients of the grants, showcasing the diverse range of initiatives being supported

The state Commission on Crime and Delinquency, or PCCD, allocated grants totaling $1,317,882 to local non-profit organizations and county governments across the Lehigh Valley, state Sen. Lisa M. Boscola announced.
Boscola emphasized the positive impact the funds would have on the region.

“These investments into our communities will help improve the quality of life, provide assistance in the treatment of individuals with substance abuse and aid our counties in the administration of our criminal justice systems.”

“I am particularly pleased to see the Wilson Area LINCS Family Center receive funding as they continue their efforts to provide resources to raise healthy children and enhance the quality of life for all residents in the Wilson Area School District.”

Recipients and allocations are:

State Violence & Delinquency Prevention Program:

  • $200,000 awarded to Wilson Area LINCS Family Center Inc: Wilson Area Communities That Care Coalition.

FY2023-2024 Intermediate Punishment Treatment Program Initiative:

  • $660,000 awarded to Lehigh County: TCAP-Intermediate Punishment Treatment Program.
  • $265,000 awarded to Northampton County: Northampton County IP Program FY 23-24.

Substance Abuse Education and Demand Reduction Funds – Category 1, Adult Focus:

  • $147,882 awarded to St. Luke’s Hospital: Expanding Access for OUD & SUD Impacted Patients.

Paul Coverdell Forensic Science Improvement Funds:

  • $45,000 awarded to Lehigh County: Lehigh County Coroner Toxicology Analyzer.
