.7M In Housing Grants Allocated In Chesco

​​ Pennsylvania Housing Finance Authority awarded grants to nonprofits and businesses to address housing insecurity.

WEST CHESTER, PA — Pennsylvania Housing Finance Authority awarded Chester County $2.7 million for programs to provide affordable housing, state Sen. Carolyn Comitta announced Monday.

“A thriving Chester County is dependent on every resident having a safe, healthy place to call home,” said Comitta, a Chester County Democrat who represents Chester County.

The Pennsylvania Housing Affordability and Rehabilitation Fund was established by Act 105 of 2010 to assist with the creation, rehabilitation, and support of affordable housing throughout Pennsylvania.

The program is funded through Realty Transfer Tax Fund and the Marcellus Shale Impact Fee Fund for companies producing natural gas.

These grants were awarded:

  • Home of the Sparrow, Exton: $50,000 for apartment subleases and re-entry case management for women transitioning from the criminal justice system.
  • Friends Association for Care and Protection of Children, West Chester: $200,000 for the Eviction Prevention Court program.
  • Brandywine Valley Active Aging, Dowingtown and Coatesville: $200,000 for a case management program supporting individuals who are homeless, at-risk for homelessness or housing insecurity, or have survived disasters.
  • Housing Partnership of Chester County, Downingtown: $200,000 for a Conservatorship Blighted Property Pilot Program to rehabilitate abandoned properties to be sold to first-time home buyers.
  • DMPA Investment Group: 200,000 for the construction of new container homes in Coatesville.
  • Habitat for Humanity of Chester County, Coatesville: $100,000 for the purchase and renovation of two homes in Coatesville.
  • Domestic Violence Center of Chester County, Coatesville: $100,000 to support homelessness prevention services for domestic violence survivors.
  • Kennett Area Community Services, Kennett Square: $60,000 for to support homelessness prevention for individuals and families experiencing housing insecurity in Southern Chester County.
  • Housing Partnership of Chester County, Downingtown: $50,000 for housing counseling, financial literacy, and credit counseling programs.
  • Housing Authority of Chester County, West Chester: $300,000 for their Housing Locator Program to assist lower-income residents who need assistance with securing housing based on their specific needs.
  • W.C. Atkinson Memorial Community Service Center, Inc. Coatesville: Individualized Intensive Case Management program to help identify and find solutions to the root causes of housing instability for men in the community.
  • Friends Association for Care and Protection of Children House, West Chester: a transitional housing program for women that were previously incarcerated.
  • Human Services Inc., Thorndale: $200,000 to rehabilitate a vacant garage to provide housing support services to Coatesville area community members.
  • Safe Harbor of Chester County, West Chester: $150,000 to emergency shelter and case management program.
  • Chester County Department of Community Development, West Chester: $375,000 to increase the capacity for their street outreach and data team.
  • Open Hearth Inc, Phoenixville: $110,000 for the Targeted Homelessness Resource Coordination program, creating and maintaining a list of those experiencing homelessness in the county and working with all housing providers to prioritize those on this list for permanent housing.
  • Good Neighbors Home Repair Inc., Kennett Square: Home rehabilitation programs for lower-income residents in southern Chester County.
