20 photos of Armed Forces Day in Sunderland and Seaham as crowds turn out to enjoy live music and military displays

Communities from across the North East turned out in force to show their support for Service men and women on Armed Forces Day.

The annual event takes place on the last Saturday in June to acknowledge the contribution made by military personnel and their families to their country.

Huge crowds gathered at Seaham Town Park on Saturday, June 24 to enjoy a party featuring live music from performers including Rabble Rousers, Soldier Mac and Bare Bones. The event kicked off at 12pm with a Drumhead Service and saw those gathered browse stalls as they enjoyed the summer sunshine.

The Armed Forces Day event at Seaburn Recreational Ground in Sunderland also drew crowds on Saturday who looked on as the Mayor of Sunderland, Councillor Dorothy Trueman, raised The Armed Forces Day flag along with Deputy Mayor of Sunderland, Councillor Harry Trueman, and DLI Veteran Alan Clews.

Visitors also looked at military vehicles, and watched historical re-enactments from the group, Historia Normannis. The Sunderland event will also take place on Sunday and will once again feature more than 70 stalls and street food vendors.

Our photographer Craig Connor was at both celebrations to capture all the action. Have a look through our gallery to see how communities marked Armed Forces Day in Sunderland and Seaham.
