Adrian says ‘complete’ Liverpool player is the best he’s ever seen in training

Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian has hailed the ‘complete’ qualities of teammate Alisson Becker.

Adrian has been playing second – or third – fiddle to Alisson since arriving at the club in 2019. In that time, the Liverpool No.1 has cemented his status as one of the finest ‘keepers on the planet. And speaking to The Athletic today, Adrian has admitted that he’s never seen a more well-rounded goalie than Alisson.

“I’ve trained with many goalies in my career but Ali is by far the most complete,” said the 36-year-old. “As a goalkeeper, you can be very good in the air or good with your feet or have amazing reactions. Ali ticks every single box. He’s a very good person too. He keeps calm and stays humble. To maintain the level of consistency he’s shown every season, it’s really hard. It comes down to his work ethic.”

Last month saw Alisson bring up 100 clean sheets at Liverpool, as the Reds beat Brentford 1-0. Commenting on his colleague’s milestone, Adrian also highlighted the work of the rest of the team to help Alis shine.

“A hundred clean sheets is a great achievement for him,” he said. “Of course defenders, midfielders and strikers have helped too. You could have Spiderman in goal but it wouldn’t work unless everyone does their jobs.”

Spiderman? Pfft, he’s got nothing on our Ali!

Alisson hoping for quieter year

For whatever reason, Liverpool seem to have given up on the traditional end-of-season awards of old. They’ve been notable by their absence for a few years now.

But if a Player of the Year were to be announced for the 2022/23 vintage, then it’s clear that Alisson would be the runaway leader.

During the Brazil international’s five-year stay at Anfield, he’s rarely been heralded quite so much as he has this season.

While that’s clearly a good thing, we also hope to see this change next season. Of course, Alisson will always be appreciated, that’s a given. By now he’s staking a big claim to be the best goalie in the history of Liverpool, or even the Premier League. But it would be nice if he didn’t have to show that quite so blatantly in 2023/24.

If that ends up being the case, it means that the Reds are having a much better season. Should they need him, Alisson will show his qualities 100 per cent. But hopefully, they don’t.

In the meantime, over-exerted or not, expect the 30-year-old to keep showing he’s the best around day-in-day-out in training.
