Agent has spoken to Liverpool about signing £298k-a-week player this summer, he wants to leave
The agent of Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich has been in touch with Liverpool over a possible transfer this summer.
That’s according to 90min, who report that the 28-year-old is potentially on the market this summer. They claim that Kimmich has become ‘unsettled’ at Bayern and could be tempted by a new challenge ahead of next season.
As a result, the Germany international’s agent has reportedly had some of Europe’s top clubs on the phone. One of those is said to be Liverpool, who have supposedly been ‘contacted’ about a possible move.
There’s no word on how the Reds specifically have reacted to such an approach. However, it’s claimed that ‘most’ of the eight clubs contacted have said they’d be interested in signing Kimmich.
Regardless of that, Bayern are reportedly ‘adamant’ that they won’t be letting one of their most important players leave.
Kimmich adds to Bayern turmoil?
What is going on at Bayern at the moment? A surprise 3-1 loss against RB Leipzig tonight means the Bundesliga title race is no longer in their hands.
Out of the Champions League meekly to Manchester City and with players like Kimmich and Ryan Gravenberch seemingly publicly pushing for moves, all is not well in Bavaria.
On top of all that, they’ve got the problem of what to do with Sadio Mane. The 31-year-old has been a disaster since joining from Liverpool and looks set to be moved on – or tried to be moved on at least.
From a Liverpool point of view, there is some relevance to this. We don’t see why there would be much, or any interest in Kimmich, but they certainly seem to want Gravenberch.
The 20-year-old has often been left out of the side this season, with Kimmich favoured instead. If the older player were to move on, a spot would open up for Gravenberch.
In that scenario, perhaps he’d no longer be pushing for a summer departure. As a result, Liverpool could do with Kimmich staying.
Fortunately, we don’t see any version of events happening where he leaves the club he joined in 2015. Reportedly on a princely £298k-a-week, there aren’t many clubs in Europe who would be willing and able to match that. If there is any truth to any of these rumours at all, it’s more than likely a public ploy for a new contract.
