All the Battle of Atlantic commemoration events in city this weekend

The city will come together to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Atlantic with a number of events.

This weekend marks the 80th anniversary of the longest, hardest naval battle in history, The Battle of the Atlantic. One of the most important factors of the Battle was logistics and, more importantly, Britain’s ability to maintain vital supply lines through its North Atlantic shipping routes.

Liverpool is hosting a series of events to commemorate the commitment and resilience of the brave men and women who ensured Britain and its allies overcame the malignant threat of Nazi Germany.

Here’s a full list of the events happening in Liverpool over the bank holiday weekend.

A new national memorial to the battle which kept us from starvation

The weekend got underway with a private service of commemoration at St Nick’s Church at the Pier Head. Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal was the guest of honour at the service on Friday, which acknowledged the sacrifice of the thousands of UK and allied sailors involved in the Battle of the Atlantic, both merchant and military
