Sam Allardyce is reportedly ‘set for crunch talks’ with Leeds United to ‘discuss his future’ following their relegation from the Premier League.

The veteran boss returned to management with only four games of the 2022/23 season remaining.

He was tasked with saving Leeds United from relegation but he was unable to keep them up on the final day. Under him, they only picked up one point from their games against Man City, Newcastle United, West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur.

Leeds needed to beat Spurs on the final day to give themselves a chance of avoiding the drop but they slipped to a heavy 4-1 defeat at Elland Road.

Ahead of the game against Spurs, Allardyce suggested that his future will be decided after the end of the season.

“That’s to be decided at the end. It’s always been a case of we will discuss whatever we need to discuss at the end of the season based on where we are.

“Also based on what I think the club needs to go forward and based on what the club thinks and if that’s aligned with each other, then we’ll wait and see.

“But that discussion, it doesn’t happen in a morning or one day, it happens over a period of time and I just hope that we’re talking on a very positive nature on Monday morning and I have a hangover!”

The Daily Mail are now reporting that ‘Allardyce is set for crunch talks’ with Leeds and he ‘will meet’ with their hierarchy ‘on Thursday to discuss his future at the club’.

Allardyce is ‘not expected to stay’ but he is at least ‘having a debrief with chief executive Angus Kinnear’. The report adds.

‘It is not out of the question that Allardyce is persuaded to throw his hat in the ring but it is unlikely at this stage.

‘It is understood that the former Bolton, Blackburn, West Ham and Crystal Palace manager was shocked at the Leeds players’ inability to put up a fight as they plummeted towards relegation. He will tell the club that the playing squad needs a complete overhaul.

‘With the club now facing at least a season in the Championship, the proposed takeover by the San Francisco 49ers franchise is up in the air. It is unlikely the club will be able to make a managerial appointment until that process is resolved.

‘Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani – currently in Italy – hopes to discover whether the 49ers wish to buy him out or merely retain their current 44 per cent shareholding by the end of the week.

‘Kinnear will lead Leeds’ efforts to find a new manager and will speak to Allardyce and other candidates.’
