Bailey Peacock-Farrell discusses Burnley future amid Sheffield Wednesday links

Burnley goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell has told the Irish News that he wants to be playing regular football next season, amid links to Sheffield Wednesday.

Burnley are stepping up to the Premier League ahead of next season and Sheffield Wednesday up to the Championship. And ahead of the summer, it was rumoured that Burnley’s second-choice goalkeeper Peacock-Farrell was being primed for a return to Sheffield Wednesday.

The Northern Ireland international, 26, spent the 2021/22 season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday in League One, where he played 45 times in league fixtures as the Owls achieved a play-off finish.

He returned to Burnley ahead of last season and would make eight league appearances under Vincent Kompany, as the Clarets won the second tier title.

But Alan Nixon revealed at the start of the month that Darren Moore and Sheffield Wednesday are keen to bring back Peacock-Farrell on loan this summer, ahead of their return to the Championship.

Why Chelsea FINALLY Turned A Corner.

Peacock-Farrell has now spoken out on his future, telling the Irish News (via Burnley Express):

“I am in a role where you can either get a lot of games or absolutely none. I’ve been quite happy that I got the amount of games that I have.

“We had really good cup runs and I played the back end of the season as well as a couple of games at the front. Overall I could have done with a few more games and I like to play every game but it certainly wasn’t a bad season.

“Obviously you would like to be playing regularly every single season, that’s certainly the aim going into next season as well.”

Despite utilising Peacock-Farrell as a back up player last season, Kompany spoke fondly of the former Owl earlier this season, saying (via Belfast Telegraph):

“Bailey has been top — his performances have been good.”

Bailey coming back?

Sheffield Wednesday could do with adding Championship quality all through their XI this summer and Peacock-Farrell would certainly add that.

He showed during his time at Hillsborough previously that he’s a very capable goalkeeper in League One and he stepped into Burnley’s XI with ease last time round, so he could surely cut it in the Championship for Wednesday.

It certainly seems like the Owls have an interest and the player’s comments could suggest that he’s open to a move this summer, since he’s looking for regular game time next time round.

Burnley are in the market for a goalkeeper themselves and so it seems like Peacock-Farrell will only fall further down the pecking order.
