Blind, elderly dog flown to rescue in Tennessee for a second chance

ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. (WCYB) — A pilot from central Virginia made a landing in Tennessee Friday to deliver some precious cargo.

Hunter, a stray dog that was found in Elkins, West Virginia was dropped off at a shelter. He is about 10 years old and he’s blind.

When pilot Nick Hermann, originally from Abingdon, saw Hunter’s story on social media, he wanted to be part of his rescue. Hermann picked him up and delivered him to Brad Marlow.

Marlow is the founder of Misfit Hounds out of Hampton where they currently provide a safe and loving home for about 50 hound dogs.

I needed something to feed my soul, and it’s the most gratifying thing I can do,” Marlow said. “And we’ve actually had really good luck and in doing it, we’ve got a pretty big following and you know, we’ve got a big hound family including Nick and his wife, Amber. They’re amazing.

“When you get to meet the dog’s new owner and see how happy they are, I mean it’s a pretty fantastic feeling that you’ve saved an animal and got him to his forever home,” Hermann said.

Hermann’s flight from West Virginia was a little more than two-and-a-half hours. He makes rescue flights through Pilots and Paws, but he chose to do this rescue on his own to help out Hunter.
