Brad Batrum thrills in Destruction Derby at King’s Lynn

Fenland’s drivers had another brilliant outing on what was a fantastic night of racing at King’s Lynn last Saturday.

Brad Bartram was once again one of the hardest working drivers in the pits as he raced both the “overs” and “unders” class on Old Skool banger night.

He was at the wheel of a Calibra in the overs, which he powered to the chequered flag from the back of the grid. This was then backed up with a runner-up finish in the final to Norwich’s Alex Utting, before he went on to win an entertainer award in the Destruction Derby with a brilliant display.

Also having a good night in the overs class were Lennie Murkin and Joel Allen, who were both in Bluebirds, and a Primera-powered James Licquorice.

Murkin came home in sixth place and Licquorice ninth in the race, which was won by Bartram, before both went on to put on great crowd pleasing performances – particularly in the meeting final, where they both picked up an entertainer award.

It was not as great a night for world champion Max Stott, who pulled off with what looked like engine problems in his second heat after placing in fourth in his first heat, meaning he failed to appear for the final.

Bartram was joined in the under class by the Wright brothers – Dan and Brad – and both had good nights, with Dan getting a fourth place in his heat and fifth place finish in the final whilst he picked up an entertainer award for a good performance in his second heat.

Brad picked up an entertainer award in the final for a cracking follow-in on Ady Groome which ended with him rolling over the latter.

And it was bragging rights for the Moat family, as amongst the large crop of Fenland Drivers younger member Shane had his best meeting for a few years with a runner-up finish in the final to Mildenhall’s Charlie Simes.

He then backed this up with a third and sixth place finish in his heats.

Barty Ketteringham drove superbly in the final to take a career best fourth place finish, while Dean Moat was the only other local driver in the final to grab some points with an eighth place finish.

Rhys Parrin bounced back to form with a fifth place finish in the Junior Banger Final which was won by Lewis Baldry, with Levi Murkin also getting amongst the places.

Riley Crowson was also in the places with a strong fifth place finish in his opening heat, with Archie Horwood also impressing on his King’s Lynn debut with an eighth place finish in his first race.

Stock car racing takes centre stage this weekend with the 2L Stock Cars in action in their English Championship, with racing also coming from the BriSCA F1 Stock Cars and BriSCA MiniStox.

Jacob Downey and Sam and Tommy Parring will be chasing a career-first championship roof in the 2L Stock Cars, while veteran performer Daz Kitson will be in action in the F1 Stock Cars – and Brooke Kitson is scheduled to appear in the BriSCA MiniStox.
