Cincinnati Enquirer names high school athletes of the week, June 9
In a vote that ended June 9, Cincinnati.com readers selected the Cincinnati Enquirer Athletes of the Week from high school sports action through June 4.
Winter and spring winners through April 7 should have received certificates through the athletic departments at this point. The remaining spring certificates will be mailed to the athletic offices before the end of June.
The Athlete of the Week voting occurs during all high school sports seasons and recognizes athletes across all sports. Here are this week’s winners for the final ballot of the 2022-2023 high school sports season.

Ohio baseball team of the week: Moeller – Moeller returned to the state tournament for the first time since 2015 with a 10-4 win over West Clermont before topping Elder 7-6 in the Division I regional finals.
Boys spring team of the week: Withrow rugby – The boys won a Single School Division II state rugby championship with a 36-34 win over Warrior Rugby out of Newark, Ohio, on Saturday. It was the first Withrow field/court sport to win a state championship since the baseball team won in 1950.
Girls spring team of the week: Beechwood track – With 100 points scored in the Class 1A tournament, Beechwood finished first place in the state, topping runner-up Bishop Brossart by 32 points.
Ohio big-school baseball player of the week: Nathan Manley, Moeller – The senior catcher went 5-for-7 with five RBIs and two doubles in regional tournament wins over West Clermont and Elder to help send Moeller to the state Final Four.
Small-school baseball player of the week: Kyle Anderson, Badin – The sophomore went 2-for-4 and scored a run in Badin’s 9-2 win over Hebron Lakewood in the Division II regional semifinals.
Softball player of the week: Kaitlyn Dixon, Highlands – She had two strong games in the circle last week as the Bluebirds won the Ninth Region championship and lost in the state round of 16 to Johnson Central. She didn’t allow an earned run in either game. In the Ninth Region final, she allowed four hits and walked while striking out eight as Highlands beat Dixie Heights, 4-2 in eight innings. She also had two hits and an RBI. In a 3-1 loss to Johnson Central in the state tournament, she allowed three hits and walked two in 4.2 innings while striking out eight.
Ohio boys lacrosse player of the week: Brady Bennett, St. Xavier – The junior midfielder scored a hat trick in the state final loss to Dublin Jerome, including the first goal that kicked the scoring for St. Xavier June 3. He also had a goal to tie the game with 46 seconds to go in the state semifinal game against Upper Arlington, which resulted in an ultimate win, 8-7. D.J. Wojciechowski’s goal was the game-winner
Ohio girls lacrosse player of the week: Laney Simons, Sycamore – The senior scored four goals, the last one her 100th of the season, in the 13-7 loss to Upper Arlington in the state semifinals. She left the program as the all-time leading scorer.
Northern Kentucky girls tennis player of the week: Taylor Meenach/ Hailey Fullenkamp, Notre Dame – They finished as quarterfinalists in the state doubles tournament.
Northern Kentucky boys doubles tennis team of the week: Kelei Christensen/ Alex Yeager, Covington Catholic – They won the first doubles title in school history and clinched the first team state title in school history.
Ohio boys track and field athlete of the week: Malachi Snow, Northwest – He was the Division I runner-up in both the 110-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles.
Ohio boys track and field relay team of the week: La Salle – Koy Beasley, Tyrone Brown, Timko Jackson and B.J. Ross won the Division I 4×100 relay with a time of 41.42 seconds, just 0.01 seconds slower than the school record.
Ohio girls track and field athlete of the week: Myah Boze, Ross – The junior was the Division I runner-up in the 300-meter hurdles in 43.29 seconds. She also took seventh place in the 100-meter hurdles.
Ohio girls track and field relay team of the week: Waynesville – Kendal Erbach, Samantha Erbach, Maria Gill and Emme Greely bested their regional time by more than 20 seconds to win the Division II 4×800 relay in 9:17.62.
Northern Kentucky/Indiana boys track and field athlete of the week: Jackson Smith, Walton-Verona – He won two individual Class 1A state titles, winning the 100 meters in 11.07 seconds and the 200 meters in 22.18 seconds. He also got a state championship with the 4×200 relay team.
Northern Kentucky boys track and field relay team of the week: Covington Catholic – Mitchell Drees, Joe Mayer, Luke Meagher and Will Sheets won the Class 3A 4×800 relay in 7:52.14, just two seconds slower than the state record.
Northern Kentucky girls track and field athlete of the week: Chloe Hein, Bishop Brossart – She won the Class 1A long jump with a leap of 17-8.75 and ran a leg of the winning 4×100 relay. She also placed second in the 200 meters and fifth in the 100 meters.
Northern Kentucky girls track and field relay team of the week: Bishop Brossart – Lauren Gooderson, Chloe Hein, Lauren Hickman and Zoey Woosley won the Class 1A 4×100 title in 50.36 seconds.
