Cleethorpes MP Martin Vickers raises Barton homes appeal in parliament

Cleethorpes MP Martin Vickers wants to see health service pressures taken more into account in planning after almost 400 homes south of Barton-upon-Humber were approved.

The 390 homes development will be on on 26.3 hectares of agricultural land south of Horkstow Road, Barton. It was put forward by Banks Property Ltd two years ago and was refused by councillors, who followed planning officer advice.

But the refusal was overturned on appeal by the planning inspectorate, in a judgment published on Friday, June 9. Struggles to obtain GP appointments were frequently raised by Barton objectors to the homes.

Mr Vickers, whose constituency includes Barton, raised it in the House of Commons on Thursday. He called for a debate about the planning inspectorate taking greater account of public services in appeals.

“Although the development includes contributions for school places and leisure facilities,” Mr Vickers said of the 390 new Barton homes, “health services are most under pressure when we develop new housing estates.

“Could the Leader of the House find time for a debate to discuss the links between the provision of public services and the decisions of the Planning Inspectorate?”
