A former Liverpool star could make a surprise return to the Premier League this summer as Crystal Palace are among the clubs interested.

Divock Origi’s move to AC Milan hasn’t exactly gone to plan. Since making the move to Italy, the Belgian forward has only scored two goals.

He has missed a chunk of the season through injury and the majority of his appearances have come from the bench.

The 28-year-old only has three goal contributions from 1,156 minutes of football. Stefano Pioli has stuck with Olivier Giroud ahead of Origi in the pecking order.

As a result of his slow start, the former Liverpool man is already evaluating his options. His contract runs until 2026, but he could depart this summer.

According to Calciomercato, the likes of Crystal Palace, West Ham United and Aston Villa are all interested in the forward this summer.

Each of the clubs are interested in signing a new striker this summer. For Crystal Palace, they will be desperate to replace the goals that Wilfred Zaha provides.

Their talisman is yet to pen a new deal with the club and so an exit at the end of the season looks likely. Zaha has recently been linked with a move to Fenerbahce.

While Origi and Zaha are different types of players, his arrival would soften the blow of Zaha leaving. It’s currently being reported that a bid of £7-£9million could be enough to land Origi.

At that price tag, West Ham and Aston Villa would also consider snapping him up. Despite his drop-off this season, Origi will still have plenty of options of where to go next.

Origi still has plenty to offer

While this season in Milan hasn’t gone as expected, Origi still has something to offer. In 175 appearances for Liverpool, he scored 41 goals, with plenty of his appearances coming from the bench.

In the Premier League, the Belgian forward averages 0.21 goals per game. If averaged over an entire campaign, that would result in around eight goals.

Under Roy Hodgson, Crystal Palace have been finding the back of the net more regularly, but they had struggled in this department under Patrick Vieira.

Across the entire campaign, they have scored 39 goals at a rate of 1.05 goals per game. With Zaha looking likely to depart, it’s only natural they are scouting forward options.

Palace are expected to be busy this summer as the likes of Marc Guehi and Eberechi Eze are attracting interest from fellow Premier League clubs.

Only Eze has scored more league goals for Palace this season than Zaha. Replacing Zaha’s overall impact will be no easy job if he is to leave this summer.

Securing Premier League safety was vital for Palace and now they can plan for the future. Given Origi’s record in England, he would make for a solid addition to this Palace side.
