Design of new Gloucestershire school to be unveiled

Design of new Gloucestershire school to be unveiled

Updated designs for the new primary school in Bishop’s Cleeve will be revealed at a community drop-in event at the end of this month. The new designs for the school will be shown at a public drop-in event at Bishop’s Cleeve Primary Academy on Thursday, June 29 between 4pm and 7pm.

Representatives from the county council, Gloucestershire Learning Alliance (the academy trust that will run the school), and the design team will be available to answer any questions. Following the planning deferral in June 2022, Gloucestershire County Council has been working with the design team to review the initial plans for Greenacres Primary Academy and to include a drop-off area for cars.

The planning deferral allowed the council to review updated forecasts for primary places in the area and consider how best to deliver the phasing of the school. A new planning application will be submitted later this year to build a two forms of entry school, with the space on site to add the third form of entry in the future in line with housing growth.

The new school will be a carbon neutral building and will open with pre-school facilities in September 2025. Feedback on the new proposals will be used to help form a planning application for the new school, which is due to be submitted in the autumn of 2023.

Cllr Philip Robinson, Cabinet Member for Education, Skills and Bus Transport at Gloucestershire County Council, said: “Greenacres Primary Academy marks a significant investment by the council into schools and the future of children in our county.

“The 420 school places it will provide for the growing village of Bishop’s Cleeve are much needed. I would encourage residents to view the plans either at the drop-in event, or online, and give your views on the designs.”
