Everton draw, Man Utd dent Liverpool’s Champions League dream, Spurs crumble

Yerry Mina’s 99th-minute equaliser salvaged a point for Everton at Wolves but still handed Leeds and Leicester a lifeline in the Premier League relegation scrap.

Sitting 17th and just one point above the drop-zone heading into Saturday’s action, Everton knew victory at Molineux would see them take a huge step towards safety.

A defeat was looking more likely, however, after Hwang Hee-chan’s first-half goal, but in the ninth minute of second-half added time Michael Keane picked out Mina, who tucked it home for a potentially vital point.

Everton could though end the weekend back in the relegation spots. Leeds travel to West Ham on Sunday, with Leicester then away to Newcastle on Monday night.

Man Utd dent Liverpool dream

Liverpool‘s hopes of Champions League football next season are all-but over despite Roberto Firmino’s late leveller on his big farewell at Anfield against Aston Villa.

After Ollie Watkins’ penalty miss, Villa took a deserved lead through Jacob Ramsey in the 27th minute, but Firmino – who will leave Liverpool this summer – popped up in the 89th minute to make it a memorable farewell to the Kop.

The point for Villa puts them in pole position for seventh and a Conference League place, while the draw means Liverpool look as though they will have to settle for the Europa League after Manchester United consolidated fourth with victory at Bournemouth.

United now have a three-point cushion over Liverpool with a game in hand, and beat Bournemouth on Saturday thanks to Casemiro’s ninth-minute strike.

Spurs crumble to hamper European hopes

In the lunchtime kick-off, Brentford completed a remarkable second-half comeback to dent Tottenham‘s prospects of European football next season and boost their own hopes in the process.

It was no Ivan Toney, no problem for Brentford, who began an eight-month stint without their star striker in style thanks to Bryan Mbeumo.

Harry Kane’s free-kick had given Spurs the lead inside eight minutes, but Mbeumo’s double after the break turned the match around before Yoane Wissa sealed all three points for Brentford.

With one game remaining for both sides, Brentford are now just one point behind Spurs, with seventh place set to seal a spot in the Europa Conference League.

“It’s out of our hands now, completely out of our hands now,” said Spurs’ interim boss Ryan Mason. “We’ll have to see what the other teams do and try and win at Leeds.

“You have to compete for 95 minutes. In the first half we played a very good match. 1-0 is a dangerous scoreline, and if you’re not at it for the whole game you get punished.

“The goals we conceded were poor. They were the better team in the second half. They deserved to win.

“When emotions are high it’s probably best not to speak to one another. We’ve been on a [poor] run for a number of months now. The only way to turn that around is winning games and staying together.”

Fulham and Palace draw

Aleksandar Mitrovic’s double was not enough to hand Fulham all three points as Crystal Palace battled to a 2-2 draw at Craven Cottage.

Odsonne Edouard had scored the first-half opener for Palace before Mitrovic’s penalty made it level at the break.

Mitrovic then made it advantage Fulham, only for Joel Ward to equalise with 10 minutes remaining.
