Everything we know so far about major incident in Nottingham as three found dead and man, 31, arrested for ‘murder’

A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after three people were killed in a “horrific and tragic incident” in Nottingham city centre early on Tuesday morning.

Nottinghamshire Police swarmed Ilkeston Road around 4am on June 13 and found two people dead in the street. A short while later they were called to Milton Street where a van had attempted to run over three people and left them in hospital.

A man was also found dead in Magdala Road. A Nottinghamshire Police spokesman confirmed officers have arrested a 31-year-old man on suspicion of murder and he remains in police custody at this time.

  • A third man was found dead in Magdala Road. Nottinghamshire Police believe these incidents are connected.

  • Police have arrested a 31-year-old man on suspicion of murder and he remains in police custody.

  • Following the incidents, police in Nottingham have closed down a number of city centre roads as they investigate. Members of the public have been warned to stay away from the area and use alternative routes.

  • At least six roads are closed and police cordons are in place.

  • The roads that have been cordoned off include: Ilkeston Road, Magdala Road, Maples Street, Hyson Green, and Woodborough Road, Maid Marian Way, Milton Street, Burton Street, A6008 Upper Parliament Streetand A60 Mansfield Road (some roads are completely shut whereas others are just partially shut between specific junctions).

  • All tram services have been suspended, due to the ‘major police incident’ and tram tickets are being accepted on NCT buses.

  • Police, paramedics and firefighters are all at the scene, along with specialist rescue unit vehicles.

  • Prime Minister Rishi Sunak thanks the police and emergency services for their “ongoing response to the shocking incident in Nottingham this morning”. He pays tribute to those who have lost their lives and sends his thoughts to those left injured.

What police have said

Confirming the deaths and the arrest of a 31-year-old man, a spokesperson for Nottingham Police said: “Police were called to Ilkeston Road just after 4am where two people were found dead in the street. Officers were then called to another incident in Milton Street where a van had attempted to run over three people.

“They are currently being treated in hospital. A man has also been found dead in Magdala Road. Police have arrested a 31-year-old man on suspicion of murder and he remains in police custody.”
