Fears over ‘dangerous’ road after car crashed into front of Nottinghamshire house

Residents have raised safety concerns over a busy road in Nottinghamshire after a car crashed into the front of a house. A cream coloured Renault was driven into the front garden of a property in Moorbridge Road, Stapleford, causing significant damage to the vehicle and a brick wall.

No-one was arrested or injured due to the incident, which happened at around 7am on Monday, June 5. However, residents believe it is part of a wider problem.

Speaking on Tuesday (June 6), a spokesman for Nottinghamshire Police said: “We were called out to this crash at 7.10am yesterday. Thankfully no injuries reported. Road wasn’t blocked and no arrests as things stand.”

A car was crashed into two houses on the same road in February last year. “So many cars come along this road, they just go really fast and, given that there’s houses and people trying to park and cross the road, it’s just not very safe,” said Jo Dunne, 56.

“The canal runs along here, it’s the national cycling network route, there’s fishermen, it’s a nice place to go for a walk but there’s nowhere to cross safely here. It’s ridiculous that it joins up as its so dangerous, it’s a hazard and so traffic calming measures would be a good thing.”

Independent Councillor Richard MacRae, who represents Stapleford North at Broxtowe Borough Council, has launched a petition to convince Nottinghamshire County Council to introduce traffic calming measures. “The residents have had enough,” he said.
