Freak hailstorm hits Louis Tomlinson concert in Colorado just after Geordie Andrew Cushin’s set

Newcastle singer Andrew Cushin has reached out to fans following a freak hailstorm after his Colorado gig which left some music goers with broken bones.

The 23-year-old from Heaton is currently performing across America as he supports former One Direction star Louis Tomlinson on his ‘Faith in the Future’ tour.

Cushin, who is signed to Peter Doherty’s label, Strap Originals, has already won over legions of US fans since taking to the stage in Chicago, South Dakota, and Minnesota. And last night he wowed crowds once again in Colorado as he took to the stage of the stunning Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre.

But shortly after finishing his set, a huge storm hit the open-air venue, leaving fans scrambling to find cover from hail stones reported to be the size of golf balls.

Fans took to Twitter to reveal they had broken fingers and hands after the hail left seven people in hospital and others were stranded due to the damage done to cars, the Mirror reports. West Metro Fire crews worked with the venue to try and treat the concertgoers.

The show was delayed while the storm raged before the venue eventually postponed Louis Tomlinson’s performance at 10.25pm.

Cushin reached out to fans after the show, Tweeting: “Truly bittersweet last night. It was an honour and privilege to have played Red Rocks but also devastated for the main man @Louis_Tomlinson and the boys @TheSnuts.

“Last night went from 0 to 100 within 30 minutes and I truly everyone is okay this morning.”

Meanwhile, Tomlinson tweeted: “Devastated about the show tonight, hope everyone’s ok, I’ll be back! Even though we didn’t play the show I felt all of your passion! Sending you all love!”

The tour is yet another major career milestone for Cushin who burst into the limelight in 2020 with his debut single, ‘It’s Gonna Get Better.’

Last year Cushin released his debut EP ‘You Don’t Belong’ after being signed to Peter Doherty’s label, Strap Originals, and in November will headline Newcastle’s City Hall in November as part of his ‘Waiting for the Rain’ UK and Ireland tour.

Speaking to Chronicle Live about the experience this week, Cushin said: This is insane – I’m taking songs I wrote in my bedroom and playing them to thousands of American fans.

“I’m in total disbelief. I’ll be forever grateful to Louis and his team for this opportunity.”
