Gary Lineker says ‘it’s mad’ and issues career announcement

Gary Lineker has revealed his new career plans after being taken off air over the BBC impartiality row. BBC Match Of The Day star Gary says he is starting a football podcast.

“At my age I’m running out of time for a bucket list so I better get one with it,” he said. He said: “Nowadays I’m spending more time on my podcasts, the production company has really taken off.

“It’s really good fun. We’re going to do a podcast myself sometime soon. There’s not a massive football podcast in this country so we need to provide that. We’re in talks and discussions now so I can’t say who would be co-host.

“People love the connection between the two people who present The Rest Is Politics and The Rest is History. I do the BBC Sounds one with Alan and Mike which is great fun and that’s worked really well so if they’re up for it…” Gary added: “We want to create a podcast that’s available to everyone. It’s mad that we have the biggest podcast in the country, but we don’t have a football one.”

It comes after the BBC impartiality row back in March. In the wake of the row, Lineker said: “Really quiet! Nothing much going on. You could say it’s been an interesting week but I’m still here, still punching.

“It was interesting and also hugely gratifying. I had an amazing amount of support from my friends and colleagues, which was quite beautiful actually.” He added: “It was totally disproportionate the whole thing, but we’re OK. It’s resolved, I’m relieved, I’m back to work tomorrow and all is well with the world.”
