Gloucestershire woman’s 100th birthday wish for 100 Dachshunds at party comes true

Everyone of us is barking mad in our own little ways but one Gloucestershire woman was able to show her true self for her 100th birthday. Ever since staff at a Stroud care home found out that Laurice Clark had a life-long love for Dachshunds they tried to get 100 sausage dogs to attend her birthday party.

The team at Care UK’s Scarlet House, on Westward Road, organised a garden party on June 17 with the paw-some surprise. On the day, Laurice celebrated her birthday with bubbles and a specially-made cake and nearly 30 waggy-tailed dachshunds who trotted excitedly into the home.

Laurice said: “I had a wonderful time and it was so nice to see everyone enjoy themselves! I’m always talking about dachshunds and I couldn’t believe how many of them there were!”

In her younger days, Laurice and her husband owned and bred dachshunds, sparking her love for them. Their beloved pets were a brother and sister, standard-size, smooth-haired, black and tan duo named Limonite Silver Glance and Limonite Rhodium Gold.

With encouragement from her husband, Laurice began entering her canine-companions into competitions all over the country – including Crufts, where her dogs placed second and third.

Laurice Clark who lives at Care UKs Scarlet House, on Westward Road, Stroud, has a life-long love for dachshunds, having owned and bred them in her younger days.
