  • It’s a Memorial Day matchup between the Guardians and Orioles on Monday, May 29th
  • Baltimore currently owns the second-best record in all of baseball at 34-19
  • See the Guardians vs Orioles predictions, picks and odds

Amongst a number of afternoon matchups on Memorial Day, the Baltimore Orioles (34-19, 16-10 home) host the Cleveland Guardians (23-29, 11-14 road) at Camden Yards on Monday, May 29th. Opening pitch is set for 1:05 pm ET for a game that can be seen on MASN and Bally Sports Great Lakes.

Following a great finish to last season, the Orioles continue to show they are a forced to be reckoned with. After opening the season with World Series odds over +7000, they now sit at +4500 and those odds should be much shorter given they own the second best record in all of baseball.

We break down the matchup and provide all of the Guardians vs Orioles odds below, while also offering up our prediction and some player props to target.

Guardians vs Orioles Odds

Playing at home and owners of 11 more victories this season, the Orioles are -140 favorites to win the first of a three game set with Cleveland. Betting on the O’s has been a huge moneymaker throughout the year. They provide the second best return on investment when making bets on them on both the moneyline and run line this campaign.

Local forecasts are calling for temperatures around 73 degrees during the ballgame, however, there is 35% chance of rain which could put a bit of a damper on the festivities.

Cleveland vs Baltimore Probable Pitchers

Rookie Logan Allen makes his seventh career start in this affair, and so far, the overall early returns have been positive. The southpaw hasn’t given up more than three earned runs in a single outing this year.

Prior to being called up to the big leagues, Allen was lights out at Triple-A Columbus, making three starts and striking out 20 in 14 and one-third innings of work.

Although the Orioles haven’t faced Allen before, the 24-year old will have to be very prepared as Baltimore has one of those MLB lineups that enjoys facing lefties. Against southpaws, the O’s average almost a full two more runs per game on offense.

Allen vs Wells Stats

1-2 Record 3-1
3.31 ERA 3.47
1.44 WHIP 0.84
.279 OBA .176
3.7 SO/W Ratio 4.5

On the other side of the diamond, Baltimore’s Tyler Wells has been tremendous this season, although just looking at his good, but not great 3.47 ERA might give a different impression. Not a single qualified starter in all of baseball has a better WHIP than the 0.84 mark that Wells is sporting so far this year.

What’s hurt him is his tendency to leave the ball in the heart of the plate at times, allowing the long ball to kill him. Only three pitchers have allowed more homers than the 13, the Orioles’ 28-year old starters has given up this year.

Guardians vs Orioles Player Prop Picks

Admittedly, one of our player props to target is a long shot, but at the price, it feels worth the bet. Guardians catcher Mike Zunino isn’t exactly lighting the league on fire this season, but he’s got two homers in four career at-bats against Wells. Given the Orioles starter’s tendency to concede the long ball, throw some cash on a Zunino dinger.

For a more likely prop to target, hammer Ryan Mountcastle to go over 1.5 total bases. He’s batting .333 against lefties this season and that includes seven homers and six doubles in just 69 at-bats.

Guardians vs Orioles Predictions

With one of baseball’s most anemic offenses, the Guardians are one of the best teams to bet the under in the MLB odds this year, only going over the run total 16 times in 52 games.

In their seven contests, the Guardians have hit the under every single time. Baltimore has gone under in three of the last four as well, so our prediction is to roll with the low scoring trend and take these teams to combine for less than eight runs on Memorial Day.
