James Maddison transfer latest: Tottenham ‘push’ ahead of Newcastle as Leicester City price set

Leicester City midfielder James Maddison is likely to be one of the names talked about a lot over the coming weeks as clubs prepare their squads for the new season.

After relegation to the Championship, Maddison is expected to be one of the players who will leave the club this window with two Premier League clubs said to be interested in signing him. Both Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur have been linked this summer, after City turned down two bids from the Magpies this time last year.

Maddison is currently on holiday and will be given an extra break following his involvement in England’s World Cup qualifiers last week. But that has not stopped speculation over where his future could lie.

Here is everything we know about a potential summer move for the 26-year-old.

Contract situation

Maddison has a contract with City until the summer of 2024, meaning he has just one year left to run in his deal at the King Power Stadium. It means that if City don’t sell him this summer, they risk another situation similar to that of Youri Tielemans.

The Belgian will leave on a free transfer this summer after not signing a new contract on offer to him by the club. City have reportedly been in talks with Maddison over a new deal, relegation to the Championship decreases the chances of a deal being reached, meaning that City may be forced to cash in this summer.
