LIVE: Teens arrested after suspected stolen Range Rover and taxi crash during police pursuit

A suspected stolen Range Rover and a taxi have crashed during a police pursuit.

Bridge Road at the junction with Parkfield Road in Stockton has now reopened following a collision in the early hours of Thursday morning. The driver and single occupant of the taxi sustained serious, but not believed to be life-threatening, injuries in the collision.


Three occupants of the Range Rover, all teenagers, have been arrested in connection with the incident. They have not sustained serious injuries, Cleveland Police has said.

Pictures from the scene show the horrific aftermath of the crash as an investigation is ongoing. The road is expected to be closed for some time.

Three people were taken to hospital say ambulance service

A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 2.31am this morning (Thursday 1 June) to reports of a road traffic incident on the junction between the A1130 (Bridge Road) and the A1305 in Stockton. We dispatched a duty officer, a specialist paramedic, a clinical team leader, and two ambulance crews. Three patients were taken to The University Hospital of North Tees for further treatment.”

Teenagers arrested

None of the occupants of the Range Rover sustained serious injuries. All three occupants, all teenagers, have been arrested in connection with the incident, the force has confirmed.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any Dashcam is asked to contact Cleveland Police. Dial 101 and pass information onto the control room quoting reference number 105217.

Suspected stolen Range Rover being pursued by police

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said: “The incident happened at 2.30am today (1 June 2023) and involved a suspected stolen Range Rover and a Taxi. The suspected stolen Range Rover was being pursued by police.

“The driver and single occupant of the taxi sustained serious but not believed to be life threatening injuries.”

Reports coming in the road is being reopened

Reports are coming in that the road is slowly being reopened to the public following the investigators carrying out their work.

Cleveland Police has
contacted the IOPC

Cleveland Police has confirmed it has “notified the IOPC of this incident and a referral will be made”. The IOPC, Independent Office for Police Conduct, investigates the most serious and sensitive incidents and allegations involving the police.

Motorist urged to find alternative routes

Motorists are being asked to avoid the area. A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said: “The road is expected to be closed for some time while officers work at the scene and drivers are urged to seek an alternative route.”

Two fire appliances were on the scene

Two fire appliances from Thornaby and Stockton were called to the scene of the collision at 2.32am. A spokesperson for Cleveland Fire Brigade, said: “Road traffic collision involving two vehicles one person trapped and extricated by fire brigade.”

Firefighters confirm one person was trapped

A spokesperson for Cleveland Fire Brigade said one person was trapped in the wreckage and had to be cut free.

Crash happened in early hours of the morning

Cleveland Police said the incident took place at a 2.30am today.
