Liverpool fan and Wrexham star Paul Mullin reveals conundrum for Man United vs Man City

Liverpool fan and Wrexham star Paul Mullin reveals conundrum for Man United vs Man City

Wrexham star Paul Mullin has admitted he wishes Manchester United and Manchester City could both lose the FA Cup final.

The striker is set to win the Golden Boot in the FA Cup this season after netting eight in five games.

Mullin is a Liverpool fan at heart

Riyad Mahrez would need to score four today for City against United to leapfrog the Wrexham ace, something not particularly likely to happen.

But while taking home the award would crown off a brilliant season for Mullin, the Liverpool fan has been left with a conundrum.

At the end of the day, one of United or City will lift the FA Cup – something that any Scouser cannot bear the sight of.

Speaking to talkSPORT ahead of the FA Cup final at Wembley, Mulltin said: “It has been well-documented, Wrexham has got a lot of media attention.

“Obviously, that came as we did well on the pitch otherwise that would not have come.

“We had a good run in the FA Cup and ran Sheffield United really close so we should be really proud of ourselves but obviously disappointed to lose.

“But today, it is not the occasion I wanted with two Manchester clubs and supporting Liverpool but it will be good to see [Erling] Haaland and co.

“I don’t really want either team to win, to be honest! I hope it goes to penalties and the lights go out and they can’t finish the game.

Ten Hag and Guardiola, once colleagues who shared ideas, will do battle on Saturday in the FA Cup final between Man United and Man City

“That would be the ideal scenario! But I am a Liverpool fan, loved it this time last year when Liverpool were here.

“It is still going to be an unbelievable occasion and to watch these players, who are unbelievable up close, is something to look forward to.”

Mullin has had an extraordinary season after leading Wrexham to the Football League.

The Dragons won the National League by four points after achieving a remarkable 111 points, while Mullin has scored a total of 47 goals – 38 in the league.

The 28-year-old added: “It is unbelievable to be even in with a chance of winning the Golden Ball.

“It is something I am really proud of when my little boy goes up to be able to show that his dad was able to win something I’d look back on my career and be really proud of.

“It is the cherry on top, the focus all season has been to get promoted.

“I knew going into the game against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane that if I got a goal I’d have a good chance of winning this also.

“When that happened, it was something that after the promotion I could look back on and give me a really good end to a good year.”
