Hello and welcome to the Liverpool news and transfers live blog for Wednesday, May 17.

It’s going to be a busy summer for the Reds with a midfield rebuild on the way, but will they have Champions League football to look forward? After seven wins in a row that is now a possibility.


Liverpool have set their sights on midfielder Mason Mount ahead of the England international entering the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge. Incoming Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino would like to keep the 24-year-old, but he is still expected to leave.

Roberto Firmino is set to play his final game for Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday is going to leave the club upon the expiry of his contract at the start of June. The Brazilian is being linked with a move to Saudi Arabia.

Real ‘want Bellingham’

Real Madrid want to sign Jude Bellingham, Kylian Mbappe and Alphonso Davies this summer.

As reported by the ECHO this month, the Reds are side-stepping Borussia Dortmund midfielder Bellingham with revised plans to make two or three additions to their engine room instead.

Mason Mount, Nicolo Barella and Moises Caicedo are among countless names being mooted as potential alternatives.

And now according to Sky Sports, talks were at an advanced stage for Bellingham – but as yet, there has been no official offer for the 19-year-old midfielder, however, Real want to sign him and Mbappe and Davies.

Liverpool ‘agree Owen fee’

Wolves have reportedly agreed to sell 14-year-old academy defender Harvey Owen to Liverpool for £800,000.

That’s according to Shropshire Star, who are reporting that owen is set to join Liverpool’s academy after the two clubs reached an agreement over a fee.

The report goes on to claim that the fee is higher than any compensation they would have received if the deal would have gone to a tribunal.

Bayern ‘eye Rice’

Bayern Munich are reportedly interested in signing Declan Rice.

That’s according to Bild journalist Christian Falk, who are reporting that the former Chelsea manager is interested in the 24-year-old this summer.

It was reported recently that Arsenal are set to open talks with West Ham United over a £90million swoop for Rice, who has also been linked with a move to Liverpool over the past year.

Firmino a ‘target for clubs in Saudi Arabia’

Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane are both reportedly ambitious transfer target for clubs in Saudi Arabia.

That’s according to Ben Jacobs in this week’s edition of his exclusive CaughtOffside column, the Saudi government has as many as 20 big names on their list, with Firmino and Mane on it.

Firmino has already confirmed he will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season when his current contract expires after eight years at the club.

Liverpool ‘make Mane decision’

Liverpool are reportedly not interested in bringing Sadio Mane back to the club from Bayern Munich.

Mane only joined the Bundesliga champions from Liverpool last summer. He has scored 12 times for Bayern in an injury-disrupted campaign.

And according to Sky Sport Germany Mane will be put on Bayern’s transfer list this summer, however, Football Insider are reporting that Liverpool’s recruitment staff have no interest in bringing the forward back to the club this summer.

Mount ‘expected’ to leave Chelsea

Liverpool-linked Mason Mount is reportedly expected to be one of the first wave of players to leave Chelsea this summer.

That’s according to a report from Football Insider, who state that Mauricio Pochettino looks ready to make a number of changes to this struggling Chelsea squad, with Mount just one of several big names who could be allowed to leave.

The ECHO understands that the 24-year-old is high on the list of midfield priorities among chiefs at Anfield heading into the summer transfer window.
