London Southend announces extension of Amsterdam flights for Winter 2023/2024

London Southend Airport has come out with another exciting announcement in conjunction with their airline partner easyJet.

The announcement concerns the extension of one of the airport’s existing routes to Amsterdam, which will now run throughout the winter season.

According to easyJet’s app, flights from Southend to Amsterdam will run twice weekly on Mondays and Fridays. In addition, flights will arrive at 11:30am on both days and depart again at 12:00pm.

At present Amsterdam currently operates from the airport having commenced on the 24th May this year alongside the route to Faro.

Flights to Amsterdam run as part of a W rotation flight with the Faro route and operate 4 times a week on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

Throughout July and August, flights drop to 2 weekly on Mondays and Fridays, before returning to 4 weekly for September and October.

The announcement of Amsterdam being extended for this years Winter season joins a growing list of recent route and exciting announcements for the airport.

First of all, on the 25th May, Southend airport released that its first Winter flights in 2 years were back with flights to Paris Charles De Gaulle commencing on October 29th 4x weekly.

The addition of Amsterdam, puts winter flights up to 6 weekly flights, which although small, its a large step in the right direction.

Following Paris, the airport announced that the RAF Red Arrows, RAF Typhoon Display Team and Battle of Britain Memorial Flight will be returning to Southend during mid August, as the teams base themselves out of the airport for the Eastbourne Airshow.

This exact event happened last year for the same reason and the presence of the 3 largest display teams in the UK drew thousands of people to the airport to see them up close and personal.

Lastly, it has been announced by Balkan Holidays, that a handful of charter flights will be operating from Southend to Burgas during Summer 2024.

Although no official announcement from the airport has been released yet, Southend Airport in a comments section on Facebook, confirmed an official release of more details will be coming very soon regarding this route.

A positive first half of the year


With its first Winter flights under its belt in almost 2 years, Southend has a lot to look forward to as the year progresses.

Rumors’ are currently swirling in the local community that more routes are to be announced this year adding to the excitement as Southend finally begins to pick up the pace in its recovery.

An interesting note to add on the topic of further routes, is easyJet’s recently announced Alicante base, which will open in March 2024 next year.

The relation this has to Southend is, Alicante is currently the most requested route from frequent fliers and locals.

With no base currently at Southend, the opening of an Alicante base next year opens the door to the potential of this highly popular route returning next year, however we will have to wait and see if this progresses, alongside the other rumors currently circulating.
