London weather forecast shows exact times rain is next due to fall as relentless heat leads to first signs of possible water shortages

Forecasts have predicted when London could next be in store for rain, as the heatwave continues to bathe the city in sun. Today (Thursday, June 15), the Met Office says Londoners should expect a high of 27℃, peaking at around 2pm.

The heat is expected to be the same on Friday, albeit reaching its highest later in the day at around 4pm. The weekend, meanwhile, is expected to be a tad cooler, as forecasters say Saturday is set to be cloudy.

Temperatures, however, are still expected to be decent (25℃). A summary reads: “Sunny intervals changing to cloudy by late morning.”

Sunday could bring a day that gardeners have been waiting for, as experts suggest there could be light rain in the afternoon. However there is only a 50 per cent chance of light rain at 4pm, dropping to 40 per cent at 7pm and 10pm. And while there are other days in the next week with a chance of light rain, no significant rainfall is due, prompting warnings and advice from water companies about saving water.

Monday (June 19), Tuesday and Wednesday all have a low chance of bringing light showers at different times, but it appears unlikely to be enough to replenish water supplies.

This comes as the first signs of possible water shortage are appearing. Thames Water has issued reminders about saving water although has stopped short of suggesting, like some of the water companies, that supplies are already running low. A spokesperson encouraged people on Tuesday (June 13) to have four-minute showers to save water, pointing out the cost and energy saving that would bring – over £100 according to the utility company.
