M20 lorry fire live: Motorway closed near Maidstone as smoke wafts across road

A lorry fire on the M20 has brought traffic to a standstill near Maidstone on Tuesday afternoon (June 6). The blaze has taken hold of the vehicle’s trailer on the eastbound carriageway between junctions five (Aylesford) and six (Maidstone / Blue Bell Hill).

Traffic is being temporarily held in the area while the incident is resolved, with congestion now stretching back to junction four. Smoke from the fire is reportedly blowing across both sides of the carriageway.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) has confirmed that there are three fire engines in attendance working to bring the blaze under control. Crews are wearing breathing apparatus and are using compressed air foam to extinguish the flames.
