M20 traffic live as ‘police incident’ blocks motorway between Maidstone and Ashford

Traffic has been stopped on the M20 between Maidstone and Ashford due to a police-led incident on Sunday (May 28). The incident was first reported at around 3.20pm and delays are now said to be building on the approach to the location.

Travel service Inrix said: “All traffic being temporarily held due to police incident on M20 Eastbound from J8 A20 Ashford Road (Leeds Castle / Maidstone Services) to J9 A20 Fougeres Way (Ashford).”


National Highways added: “Traffic is stopped on the M20 eastbound between J8 Maidstone and J9 Ashford due to a Kent Police-led incident. Delays are beginning to build on approach to the incident.”

Traffic affected by the police-led incident appears to be in the same area as Operation Brock, according to live AA traffic maps. The AA reported alongside the police-led incident:

Speed restriction due to Operation Brock where all freight traffic heading for a channel crossing must go through the coned area on M20 coastbound from J8 (Leeds Castle / Maidstone Services) to J9 (Ashford).

One lane closed as traffic uses contraflow

Inrix reported in an update:

One lane closed due to police incident on M20 eastbound from J8 A20 Ashford Road (Leeds Castle / Maidstone Services) to J9 A20 Fougeres Way (Ashford). Traffic is coping well. The freight carriageway within Operation BROCK is closed, traffic is using the other contraflow lanes to get by.
