M65 Westbound Junction 7 to 6 overnight closure after major crash

M65 Westbound Junction 7 to 6 overnight closure after major crash

National Highways have announced that two lanes of the motorway between junctions 7 and 6 will remain shut this afternoon and evening.

Then the whole carriageway will closed between the junction from 9pm to 6am for the resurfacing.

The work is required following a serious collision along the motorway yesterday involving five vehicles.

A National Highways spokesman said: “Drivers in Lancashire are being advised that lane closures along a section of the M65 will remain in place for the rest of the day until the whole of the westbound carriageway between Accrington and Blackburn can be closed overnight tonight for emergency resurfacing.

“Two lanes of the three lane westbound carriageway between junction 7 for Accrington and junction 6 for Blackburn will remain closed until 9pm tonight. All three lanes will then close overnight – from 9pm to 6am – for the resurfacing. A signed diversion between junction 7 and junction 6 will be in place overnight.

“The work is required following a serious collision along the motorway yesterday.

“The collision, involving five vehicles, happened shortly before 3pm yesterday afternoon requiring the full closure of the westbound carriageway for a police incident investigation. The eastbound carriageway was also closed during the afternoon to allow an air ambulance to attend the scene.

“A diesel oil spillage damaged sections of lane one and lane two of the westbound carriageway.

“These are currently closed for safety reasons and won’t re-open until the morning following the overnight resurfacing work.

“Drivers are advised to delay their journeys or choose alternative routes should they wish to avoid likely congestion.
