Blue Moon Man City song lyrics

Below are the words to the Blue Moon song by Manchester City supporters.

Blue moon,

You saw me standing alone

Without a dream in my heart

Without a love of my own.

Blue moon

You knew just what I was there for

You heard me saying a prayer for

Someone I really could care for.

And then there suddenly appeared before me

The only one my arms will hold

I heard somebody whisper please adore me

And when I looked, the moon had turned to gold.

Blue moon

Now I’m no longer alone

Without a dream in my heart

Without a love of my own.

Why do Man City supporters sing Blue Moon?

Clubs started using modern tunes instead of the usual shouts on the terraces in the 1980s. It’s interesting to note that “Blue Moon” was originally a chant used by Crewe Alexandra supporters before being adopted and customised by the Blues over the years. “I clearly recall hearing it for the first time during the opening match of the 1989–90 season at Liverpool, according to Gary James,” a renowned expert on City’s past. It hadn’t been sung by the supporters in previous seasons up until that point.

A few boys started singing it as we were leaving the stadium after the game at Anfield because City fans were kept back for a while. They started off with a somewhat sombre performance, but it gradually gained popularity. At the Etihad Stadium, different versions of “Blue Moon” by musicians like Doves, Supra, The Marcels, Sha Na Na, and Beady Eye have been played.

But without question, the most moving and cherished rendition is when the chorus of fervent Blues supporters sing the lyrics with unbroken fervour for the entire 90 minutes of a game. It’s an impressive show of backing and dedication to the team, and it’s going to keep happening.
