Man gets 10 months for ‘strangulation’ and harassment
A man who throttled and a woman and harassed another while on bail has been jailed for 10 months.
Callum Harris, 26, had already admitted charges of intentional strangulation and harassment when he came before Oxford Crown Court on Tuesday for sentencing.
Judge Maria Lamb was told that Harris’ harassment of his second victim left the victim so afraid she stopped working at the pub where she was employed. He had repeatedly sent her unwanted messages and turned up at her workplace over a few days in February.
Sentencing, she acknowledged that – unlike similar cases – the victim of the intentional strangulation charge did not fear she would be killed when her attacker throttled her on January 20.
However, she was afraid that it would trigger a seizure, the judge added.
Harris, of Willow Brook, Abingdon, was jailed for 10 months and given a five year restraining order.
Judge Lamb told him: “In my view, offences of this type can only be dealt with by an immediate custodial sentence, because that is the only appropriate punishment in the circumstances.”
