Manchester United are ‘eyeing up a shock move for relegated Leeds defender’

  • The Red Devils are expected to be active throughout the summer window
  • They’ve been linked with a number of world-class attackers in recent weeks
  • And now, new reports have suggested they could move for Leeds’ Robin Koch

Manchester United are considering a surprise move for Leeds defender Robin Koch, according to reports.

The Red Devils are expected to be active throughout the summer transfer window and have already been linked with a plethora of world class talent.

The likes of Tottenham’s Harry Kane, Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund and West Ham’s Declan Rice have all been tipped for big-money moves to Old Trafford.

However, United fans may be in for a shock when they see the next name that has been linked with a potential move to the club this summer.

According to Sky Sport Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, the Red Devils have held ‘loose talks’ with Leeds defender Robin Koch.

Erik ten Hag is keen to bolster his defensive options throughout the summer transfer window

The report claims that the German star is on United’s shortlist as they prepare to delve into the summer market.

The 26-year-old was a prominent feature in Leeds’ team last season and made 36 appearances as the Yorkshire club were eventually relegated on the final day.

It’s understood that Koch’s expiring contract – which will come to an end next season – could give reason for Leeds to cash in on the German international this summer.

Ten Hag has been keen to strengthen his defensive options in the upcoming window, with Napoli centre-back Kim Min-jae also strongly linked with a move to United.

There has also been expectation that club captain Harry Maguire will leave during the summer window – with Tottenham interested in his services.

German international Koch joined Leeds from Bundesliga side SC Freiburg in 2020 and has become an integral part of their side.

With 77 appearances in all competitions across his three seasons at Elland Road, the 26-year-old has proved invaluable in defence.

He’s also made eight appearances for the German national side, although his last outing came in a 1-1 friendly draw with Denmark in 2021.

In their other transfer business, United were dealt a huge blow after it was revealed that Atalanta would demand a figure ‘well in advance’ of their club record transfer fee for striker Rasmus Hojlund.

Manchester United are increasingly likely to firm up their interest with an offer for the highly-rated Denmark international while Chelsea remain in the wings.

However, Mail Sport understands the Italian club held a meeting earlier this week when it was decided they would demand closer to £86million (100m euro) for the 20-year-old who still has four years left on his contract.

Hojlund has recently signed a short-term representation deal with agency SEM, who also represent Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag.
