Manchester United takeover news RECAP why Sheikh Jassim set deadline as preferred Man Utd bidder named ‘this week’

Manchester United are now into the seventh month of their takeover process and there still remains a substantial lack of clarity.

It’s evident that Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani and Sir Jim Ratcliffe are the frontrunners in the race. Ratcliffe is touted to be the one who is edging ahead in negotiations although Sheikh Jassim submitted a revised fifth bid on Wednesday.

Both bids are said to fall short of the Glazers’ £6billion valuation but Ratcliffe is apparently proposing that Avram and Joel Glazer stay as minority shareholders.

The current owners have, expectedly, have stayed very quiet about the process but are facing mounting pressure from fans to wrap it up quickly with the transfer window fast approaching.

Erik ten Hag admitted last month that he is in the dark over what budget he will get this summer although insists he can still carry out his transfer plans under the current conditions.

United share price spikes

Manchester United’s share price has risen to its highest price in a month amid a potential takeover resolution.

The Reds have been on the market since November when the Glazer Family announced a prospective sale. Two leading bidders emerged in Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe. Both put in a series of bids but, seven months on, there has yet to be a resolution.

Sheikh Jassim put in an improved bid in the past few days which is reported to be around £5billion but with the promise of £1bn in investment. That offer is for total control at Old Trafford while Ratcliffe’s proposal is understood to be around for 60 per cent of the club and with the option that members of the Glazer Family could remain involved.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe bid impacting Liverpool summer transfer plan

Liverpool’s pursuit of Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram is unable to progress due to uncertainty regarding Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s takeover for Manchester United bid, according to French media, with the INEOS founder also current owner of the Ligue 1 side.

It has been claimed that the French outfit’s transfer budget is dependent on whether Sir Jim progresses as planned with his purchase of United.

Should he do so, Nice could be forced into selling one of their star assets to help fund moves for other players.

Takeover process in detail

It’s been a long, drawn-out process for Manchester United fans waiting for updates over the club’s anticipated takeover.

Current owners The Glazers announced they were putting the club up for sale all the way back in November – just days after the 2022 FIFA Wold Cup had kicked off.

Since then there have been five rounds of bidding, with fans craving for the sale not to impact the club’s summer transfer plans.

Here’s a look at the takeover process in detail.

Sheikh Jassim’s ‘theory’ for takeover delay

According to The Times, Sheikh Jassim’s team have two theories on why there has been a delay to the Glazers’ Manchester United takeover decision.

It is claimed that the Qataris believe either the Glazers want to stay on – and will therefore end talks without a takeover or accept INEOS’s bid – or they give the green light to Sheikh Jassim.

The Glazers would have to leave the club should Sheikh Jassim’s bid prove successful, as the Qatari bid is for 100% of the club, which comes with the promise to invest £1 billion in the revitalization of Old Trafford and the surrounding area.

Manchester United’s new owners must do three things to overthrow Man City

It wasn’t a nightmare, but reality.

A long summer without club football just got even longer for Manchester United fans after their noisy neighbours joined them in the history books by completing the Treble last night.

In doing so, they became the eighth European side to do so and just the second from England after United in 1999.

City’s win won’t take anything away from United’s legendary feat, and many will argue that the first was better, given the number of homegrown players used by Sir Alex Ferguson’s side and the fact they didn’t have an entire state backing them.

OPINION: Erik ten Hag has already sent strategy plea to Sheikh Jassim & Sir Jim Ratcliffe

Manchester United are in the seventh month of the takeover process and the fears of supporters are coming true.

Not only could the Glazers stay, but the saga is now running into the summer. Erik ten Hag does not know who will be running the club next season and, more immediately, what budget he has to play with.

He has insisted he can still carry out his transfer plans should the situation drag on into the window, which opens in just three weeks.

‘Frustration’ around Old Trafford about delayed sale

The report from the Daily Mail also adds that officials and staff within Manchester United are growing frurated at the drawn out process of the takeover sale.

Many are keen to see a resolution sorted so a clearer picture of the future can be gained.

There are also worries that the process edging into the summer will affect Erik ten Hag’s transfer plans despite his insistence to the contrary.

Gary Neville’s latest comments on the Glazers

“Honestly, I think everyone has got to the point whereby what the Glazers do, they erode every little last bit of energy out of everything that they do.

“The fans have had enough, they want them out and I think, to be fair, it’s sad, really, that it’s come to that but that’s exactly how I think everybody feels.

“They know nothing about Manchester or the north west of England and the tradition of football in this part. They have not embedded themselves in the local culture.”

Preferred bidder could be chosen ‘this week’

The takeover process could take a giant leap forward this week.

That’s according to the Daily Mail, which says both bidders are expected to finalise their bids for the final time ahead of a decision.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is thought to be leading the race although Sheikh Jassim has been handed late encouragement after submitting an improved offer on Wednesday.

Both bids are said to be at around the £5billion mark but that Sheikh Jassim’s has the potnetial to rise to £6bn combined with investment.

Sheikh Jassim ‘suffers United transfer blow’ as Mbappe plan becomes clear

The future of Kylian Mbappe is a hot topic and the forward is reported to be a player in Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani’s sights should he be successful in acquiring Manchester United.

After months and months of speculation and various reports, Qatari Sheikh Jassim and British petrochemicals billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe have been battling it out to secure a full takeover from the Glazer family.

With it still not confirmed who is the preferred bidder in the race, US banking firm the Raine Group have been leading talks of the sale with it thought most recently Ratcliffe’s offer of a 69 per cent stake in the club that would see the Glazers remain at Old Trafford in some aspect.

Ratcliffe takeover bid ‘to affect OGC Nice summer’

A report from L’Equipe (via GFFN) says Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s bid to takeover Manchester United could scupper OGC Nice’ transfer plans this summer.

Ratcliffe bought the French club in 2019 but has fced backlash over a sub-par season which hs led to fan boycotts towards the end of the campaign.

The report suggests that a takeover of United could reduce the budget of OGC Nice drspite the need for an overhaul of players ahead of next season.

Why Sheikh Jassim had set takeover deadline

Sheikh Jassim’s patience with the drawn-out Manchester United takeover processes is ‘wearing thin’, PA news agency reports.

The bidder had apparently set Friday as a self-imposed deadline for when he would end his interest, although this now seems not the case after gaining reported encouragement over a purchase.

Sheikh Jassim submitted a fifth bid on Wednesday in his bid to own 100 per cent of the club, although Sir Jim Ratcliffe is thought to be leading the race.

When Raine Group could deliver final decision on preferred bidder

A final decision on the takeover at Manchester United is reportedly set to be delivered later this week.

After months and months of speculation and various reports, Qatari Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani and British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe have been battling it out to secure a takeover from the Glazer family.

While it is still not confirmed who is the preferred bidder in the race, US banking firm The Raine Group are understood to be making progress in their attempts to choose a leading candidate. It’s thought that Ratcliffe’s offer of a 69 per cent stake in the club would see the Glazers remain at Old Trafford.
