Marilyn Helen Tillson Obituary – Poughkeepsie Journal

Marilyn Helen Tillson passed peacefully on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at the age of 76 at Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital of Westchester Medical Center in Poughkeepsie.

Born on September 24, 1946, in Yonkers, NY, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Helen Wilantowicz Holdner. Marilyn married the love of her life, Thomas D. Tillson, on April 4, 1970, at Christ the King Roman Catholic Church in Yonkers, NY.

Marilyn was a 1964 graduate of Charles E. Gorton High School, Yonkers, NY and a 1968 graduate of Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, NY where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in English.

Marilyn taught 6th grade for three years at Richard J. Bailey Elementary School in White Plains, NY and later worked for Lewis Country Farms in Lagrange, NY as well as CVS in Pleasant Valley, NY as a cashier.

Marilyn was a devout Catholic and an active member of St. Peter’s Parish in Poughkeepsie since 1977. She also served as Vice-President of the Ladies Auxiliary, Hastings-on-Hudson Protection Engine Co. No. 1, in the 1970s.

She was an outgoing, loving woman who made friends everywhere she went. She loved meeting new people, listening to oldies music, bargain hunting for antiques at the Stormville Flea Market, and showing off her treasures. Marilyn was a passionate reader and enjoyed hosting family gatherings for every holiday. Marilyn’s focus was always on her family whom she loved and adored. She hand wrote cards for every holiday and surrounded herself with photos of loved ones from near and far.

Marilyn is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Thomas D. Tillson of Hyde Park, NY and their son Robert and wife Kathy Tillson of Lodi, OH; daughter Katherine and her husband Jesse Croft of Poughkeepsie, NY; son Christopher and wife Jennifer Tillson of Somers, NY; sister Suzanne Yozzo; sister Elizabeth and husband Timothy Tillson; brother Henry and wife Lyn Holdner; sister Joyce and husband Gregory Fell; brother-in-law Herbert Schanck; three granddaughters Danielle and Mary Tillson of Wauseon, OH and Caroline Tillson of Somers, NY; and two step-grandchildren Ashley Priebe of Medina, OH & Alex Priebe of Lodi, OH, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother-in-law Gregory Yozzo and her beloved sister Janice Schanck.

Calling hours will be from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, on Sunday, June 18, 2023, at Sweet’s Funeral Home, Inc., 4365 Albany Post Rd., Hyde Park, NY. A Mass service will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, June 19, 2023, at Regina Coeli Church, Rte. 9, Hyde Park, NY. The interment will be at Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, NY.
