Metrolink disruption – Tuesday 13 June

Work to repair damage to Metrolink overhead line equipment will carry on into Tuesday.

All lines are currently operating, but trams have been unable to pass through Victoria tram stop since Sunday, due to severe damage to the equipment that is used to power the trams.

Engineers have been on site for more than 24 hours and work is ongoing to replace around 100 metres of cabling and other equipment. The extensive repairs will continue throughout Tuesday. Progress could also be impacted by the high temperatures and potential storms.

The Bury and Rochdale lines are currently part-suspended, as well as some changes to other lines.

The following lines will be operating between the stops outlined below:

  • Bury to Abraham Moss (with a six-minute frequency at peak times)
  • Rochdale to Monsall (with a six-minute frequency at peak times)
  • East Didsbury to Deansgate-Castlefield (12-minute frequency with all services double trams)
  • Trafford park line to Cornbrook (12-minute frequency)
  • Airport to Firswood (12-minute frequency)
  • Ashton to Eccles (12-minute frequency)
  • Altrincham to Piccadilly (with a six-minute frequency at peak times) .

Travelling in warm weather

With Greater Manchester set to experience high temperatures over the next few days, public transport and road users are being advised to allow extra time for journeys and stay hydrated on the move.

We’ve put together some handy advice, specific to the different ways that you may get from A to B:

On public transport

  • Carry plenty of water with you and, if possible, a fan.
  • Keep an eye out for other passengers – offering them a seat if required.
  • Consider travelling at quieter times on Metrolink when services are less busy.
  • If you feel unwell when travelling on Metrolink, each stop has a handy help point. Get off at the next available stop and use these to get the assistance that you need. On the bus, please alert the driver when it is safe to do so when parked at a stop.

Driving

  • Make sure your vehicle is fit for the journey and ensure you check your tyres. One in five motorway breakdowns are caused by tyre problems!
  • Take plenty of drinking water with you – enough for you and your passengers.
  • Allow plenty of time for your journey, including regular breaks.
  • Always take some sunglasses with you, as bright sunshine can lower visibility and make driving difficult.
  • During particularly hot weather, make sure your engine stays within the normal operating temperature range. If it begins to overheat, find somewhere safe to stop and allow it cool down.
  • Roads may be busier and journeys may take longer, so allow sufficient time for your journey.
  • Never leave anyone in a closed, parked vehicle – especially infants, young children and animals.

Cycling and Walking

  • Cyclists and walkers are advised to avoid travelling at the hottest parts of the day – between 11am and 3pm – when UV rays are strongest.
  • Where possible, stay in the shade and ensure you apply sunscreen if you’re venturing out into the sun.
  • Take extra care to remain hydrated while on the move.
