Moment keyless BMW brazenly stolen from outside home caught on CCTV
A 20-year-old man was left shaking after his first car – a BMW – was brazenly stolen from opposite his nan’s house.
Tom Hampton, from Bradwell, was visiting his nan, Ange Platt’s house on Harpfield Road, Trent Vale, when the incident happened. He told StokeonTrentLive he’d only had the grey BMW 1 Series for a month when it was nicked just after midnight on Monday.
The theft of the BMW 116i was caught on camera, with footage from CCTV cameras showing someone in a coat or jacket with the hood pulled over their head initially walking up to the car and trying all of the doors around 12.06pm and then walking over to Tom’s nan’s house and walking around a car parked on her drive.

A man is even seen walking past the front door of Tom’s nan’s house apparently looking around the outside of the house before walking past once more and then returning to Tom’s car to try the doors again.
At around 12.28pm someone again walks around Tom’s car trying the doors again and then walks away. A person then returns, running to the car just minutes later before going round to the driver’s door and opening it.
At 12.30pm the BMW is driven off, followed soon after by another car, with both vehicles appearing to turn around at the roundabout and head back down Harpfield Road in the direction of Newcastle/A34.
Tom, who runs a photography business, said he was shocked when he came out of his nan’s house to see his car had gone, initially questioning where he had parked it.
He told StokeonTrentLive: “It’s my first car and I’d only had it a month. I’d been going to the gym every day this week and visited my nan to see her and to relax for a bit as she has got a hot tub.
“I then went to go home and saw my car had gone. I couldn’t speak as I was in shock and I was shaking.
“I thought I was going crazy. I was questioning where I’d parked my car then I looked at the CCTV footage and thought, ‘oh my god’. Whoever’s done this has got some front.
“The CCTV footage shows someone trying the doors of my car at about 12.06am. Someone went in my nan’s garden at one point. We don’t know what they were doing there.
“Half an hour later someone is trying the doors again and couldn’t open them and then two minutes later they come back and they unlock the door. It’s keyless and you have to have the key in the door to start it.
“Another car seemed to follow them when they drove off. I’ve had to get in touch with my insurance company today.”
