Park Holidays UK has acquired planning permission for 275 static caravan pitches and 200 all-weather tent pitches.

The site will also hope to feature 475 luxury holiday lodges with two to three bedrooms each, which will be available to rent or buy.

Two lakes will be at the heart of the holiday park, with some guests having lake views from their accommodation.

Leisure facilities will also be available on the site and will include a club, a children’s play area, a cafe, a bar and a restaurant.

There will also be an indoor swimming pool too.

Plants and trees will also be planted on the site in a bid to encourage biodiversity in the area.

Construction is already underway, and the site will be developed in two phases.

Widdrington Lakes Holiday Park is hoping to welcome holidaymakers next spring.

Park Holidays UK director Tony Clish told the Chronicle Live: “It’s very exciting, I’m a proud North Eastener now down South so it’s great to be able to invest in an area I come from, and great we are converting what was a brownfield site into something which helps the local economy and helps tourism in the North East.

“It will take several years to develop, so we’re starting on the first phase very soon. Some finer details have to be worked out with the local authority but the intention is to be open for the public from the spring of next year.”

This isn’t the only holiday park set to open in the UK, with plans also approved for Hollybush Lakes Holiday Park in Aldershot in Hampshire.

The 16.5-acre site, which is situated near the A331, will feature nine floating holiday lodges with three to four bedrooms in each building.

Meanwhile, a theme park that has been dubbed the ‘UK Disneyland’ is scheduled to open in 2025 – even though plans were scaled back in last December.

A huge new £250m indoor water park and spa is also opening in the UK soon, with Manchester’s Therme to open in 2025.
