Nothing Leaks Phone 2: an iPhone 6 with LEDs? (Update: fake?)

Update: June 6, 2023 (4:40 AM ET): Nothing that founder Carl Pei apparently has turned down apparently leaked Nothing that lists Phone 2 as “fake”. The renders came via leaker Steve ‘OnLeaks’ Hemmerstoffer.

Normally we don’t bet against Hemmerstoffer when it comes to leaks. But it’s worth noting that this Nothing Phone 2 leak was based on prototype images, and it mostly provides leaked renders based on factory schematics. It is therefore possible that this prototype does indeed not reflect the final product.

Original article: June 5, 2023 (7:54 AM ET): Nothing has been teasing the arrival of the Nothing Phone 2 for a while, confirming several specs last month. Now a trusted leaker has given us our first look at the phone.

Tipster Steve’onLeaksHemmerstoffer and SmartPrix posted Nothing Phone 2 shows today, and our first thoughts are that the handset is very similar to the iPhone 6 line. View the gallery below.

More specifically, we have a similar metal frame to the iPhone 6 series, complete with antenna strips on each side. Otherwise, the Nothing Phone 2 retains the same basic glyph back and camera body as the Nothing Phone 1. We also get a left-aligned cutout on the front.

Other notable features gleaned from these renders include a pair of volume keys on the left, a power button on the right, and a USB-C port and speaker grille on the bottom.

There are a few other small changes noticed by the outlet, such as a dual LED flash and the Nothing glyph lighting that consists of smaller, individual lights instead of continuous light strips (supposedly for more detailed control).

Either way, the Nothing Phone 2 certainly looks like an iterative design rather than a fundamental shift. We expect a more noticeable upgrade under the hood thanks to the confirmation of a Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 SoC and a slightly larger battery. But we’ll just have to wait for more leaks and official teases to find out more about the phone.
