‘Notorious’ Scarborough strip famous for booze-fuelled rowdy antics

When somebody says ‘Saint Nicholas’ you immediately think of a whimsical figure spreading festive joy – but that isn’t the case for some residents.

While the name is synonymous with Santa and acts of kindness, that couldn’t be further from the stark reality of his namesake, St Nicholas Street, in the North Yorkshire tourist town Scarborough – popular with visiting Teessiders looking for a seaside getaway.

It’s a buzzing town centre strip in the heart of Scarborough, packed with bars and nightclubs, but it’s more famous for the rowdy antics and unruly behaviour that descends during wild weekends.

Locals have revealed that it’s not hard to find yourself targeted on the booze-fuelled battleground, especially if you’re “big”, Yorkshire Live reports.

Chef Matthew Lawson, 29, says he’s constantly on-guard when he visits St Nicholas Street on a night-out, looking over his shoulder for where the first blow may spring from.

The hulking young man stands at a towering 6”3 and says his size can attract wild acts of malice from young lads looking to prove who’s the hardest.
