Plymouth planning list: Plans for former St Luke’s Hospice building unveiled

Plans to convert offices previously used by St Luke’s Hospice’s medical and clinical teams into flats have been unveiled. The scheme would see the buildings at the Brooklands campus in Crownhill be converted into 12 homes.

The proposed development will consist of the conversion of the existing office accommodation into twelve self-contained flats, with associated car and cycle parking. Access will be retained in its current arrangement without any alterations required.

A statement with the planning application says: “The proposed development replaces an established office use with twelve self-contained dwellings. Parking is and therefore the development is self-sufficient in its parking requirements.

“The proposed change of use could result in a potential reduction in trips when compared to existing uses. In transport terms the proposed development will not generate unacceptable levels of traffic, increased parking demand, or impacts.”

St Luke’s did use the premises until 2020, when they relocated to their specialist unit at Turnchapel. This brought them under the same roof as the team which looks after their most vulnerable patients, further enhancing the seamless care for terminally ill people in their last months, weeks and days of life.

It comes as two weeks ago, plans to convert a different building on the same Brooklands site was submitted. That scheme would see Hyder House on Budshead Road, be converted into ten self-contained flats. Of the ten, nine would be two-bed, with one three-bed apartment.

Plymouth City Council planners will determine the fate of the application, as well as the others put forward this week, at a later date. Below is the full latest list of planning applications that have been submitted this week.
