Police unimpressed as driver gives ‘rendition of Strictly Come Dancing’ on road
Wiltshire Police’s specialist operations team have been very busy over the weekend chasing up various road crimes across Swindon.
From drug drivers to illegal window tints, several drivers have been stopped by police officers in the town in the past days.
The force has shared some of these incidents by posting them on their Specialist Operations Twitter account, which covers the roads policing and armed response units.
The Adver has put together a roundup of the recent road crimes that the force have been called out to.
Strictly Come Spinning
Spec Ops stopped a Ford Fiesta on a Swindon roundabout after the driver had performed a 180 degree spin during Friday, May 19.
The police tweet said: “RPU were treated to a rendition of strictly come dancing on a roundabout in Swindon, as the Fiesta driver gave it large on the loud pedal.
“The 1.0l beast however scored zero from the judges after a very poor 180 degree spin.”
Illegal Window tints
Later that day, officers stopped a car in Swindon that had tints at the front of the vehicle that were well below the legal limit.
Drug driving
Officers on Friday also stopped a driver for drug driving after witnessing some excessive speeding on Drakes Way in Swindon.
The police tweet said: “The driver couldn’t keep still and had exceptionally large pupils.
“The positive indication on the drug wipe was instant.”
No licence vehicle seizure
Moving onto Saturday and a red Nissan Micra was seized by officers in Swindon after the driver had no valid license to drive in the UK.
The driver has also been arrested for immigration offences.
Driving while on the phone
Sunday was just as busy for officers as they spotted a Ford Mondeo driver driving with the phone in his hand.
The police tweet said: “RPU in Swindon in the unmarked today had their attention drawn to the driver of this Mondeo who was holding his phone, sending voice notes.
“Unfortunately no insurance, No MOT and the front nearside tyre below the legal limit was also to be added. TOR issued.”
No seatbelt and red light running
Officers also pulled over a highway maintenance van after it became apparent that the driver was not wearing a seatbelt.
The police tweet said: “The driver of this van passed them with no seatbelt being worn, who then decided to drive through a red traffic light.
“Roadside drugs wipe indicated positive for cannabis. Trip to custody for this driver.”
