Portsmouth’s Lily Jenkins shines at Meet of Champions track meet
DURHAM – Portsmouth High School junior Lily Jenkins placed in the top four in two events at Saturday’s Meet of Champions at Oyster River High School, and will compete in Saturday’s New England championships in Bangor, Maine.
The top six in each event qualify for Saturday’s New England event.
Jenkins placed third in the 200 meters (25.89 seconds) and was fourth in the 100 (12.5).
Seacoast high schools saw four different event winners. Portsmouth Christian Academy senior Brianna Malone won the 800 (2:13.49), Oyster River sophomore Haley Kavanagh won the 1,600 (5:05.4), Oyster River sophomore Mackenzie Cook won the 3,200 (11:14.5) and Exeter’s 4×800 relay team, consisting of Clara Knab, Danica Caron, Amber Orleans and Meadow Gregory, placed first in 9:49.19.
Oyster River’s Erin Carty placed second in the 300 hurdles (44.18), Spaulding’s Hannaw Drew was second in the high jump (5 feet, 2 inches), and Winnnacunnet’s 4×400 relay team, consisting of Maitri Clifford, Moxie Clifford, Casey Coleman and Charlotte Koutalidis, placed second in 4:10.06. Koutalidis also placed fifth in the 800 (2:16.75), setting a Winnacunnet school record.
Other top-six performances included Exeter junior Rachel Poulin (javelin, third, 111-04), Dover sophomore Anique Poulin (800, fourth, 2:16.7), Somersworth’s Sya McKay (high jump, fourth, 5-0), Portsmouth junior Mariam Nada (100 hurdles, fifth, 15.74), Knab (400, sixth, 61.3), Portsmouth freshman Mia Scherr (1,600, sixth, 5:25.39), and Winnacunnet senior Marisa Reuss (3,200, sixth, 11:38.02).
Also qualifying was the Portsmouth 4×100 relay team, consisting of Ella Carter, Carolyn Milks, Nada and Jenkins, which placed fourth in 50.48; and Exeter’s 4×400 team, comprised of Taylor Seaman, Emma Smith, Gregory and Knab, which placed sixth in 4:13.86.
Winnacunnet’s Patterson sets school mark in pole vault
Winnacunnet junior Wyatt Patterson broke a school record in the pole vault, placing first at 13 feet. Oyster River senior Ty Dorow won the 400 (50.18), and Oyster River’s 4×400 relay team, consisting of Talon Ouelette, Keane Swiesz, Chris Jernigan and Dorow, placed first in 3:27.55.
Other top-six performances included Oyster River senior Daniel Doherty (high jump, second, 6-02), Portsmouth’s Jason Yeaton (javelin, third, 158-09), Portsmouth senior Avery Crowell (1,600, third, 4:23.58), Portsmouth senior Jake Haley (400, fourth, 51.41), Spaulding’s Paul Butler (high jump, fourth, 6-0), Jernigan (800, fifth, 1:58.48), Portsmouth senior Jake Lovern (110 hurdles, fifth, 16.13), Winnacunnet junior Oliver Duffy (300 hurdles, fifth, 41.68), Spaulding’s Ethan Sawyer (shot put, sixth, 44-10.25) and Somersworth’s Tayshawn Sheppard (triple jump, sixth, 39-05.)
Exeter’s 4×800 relay team, consisting of Spencer Mann, Matthew Allen, Gavin Malark and Nathan Mikulsky, placed second in 8;10.22.
