Rangers youngster quits Ibrox on free transfer three years after being linked with Manchester City and Bayern Munich

KAI KENNEDY has finally quit Rangers – three years after being linked with Manchester City and Bayern Munich.

The 21-year-old winger spent last season on loan with Falkirk and helped the Bairns reach the Scottish Cup semi-final.

He made his top team debut under Steven Gerrard in a 2-0 Scottish Cup win over Stranraer in January 2020.

Loan moves to Inverness, Raith, Dunfermline and Hamilton followed before he signed for John McGlynn’s team last summer.

Now Kennedy will join eight other academy starlets in planning the next move of their career.

Former Blackpool star Tony Weston, Murray Miller, Kevin Ciubotaru, Charlie Lindsay, Lewis MacKinnon, Kelsey Ewen, Harley Ewen and Alex Kpakpe are all leaving the club.

Bayern Munich were monitoring Kennedy back in 2020 but Gerrard did enough to persuade him to stay.

Now Northern Irish youth international Lindsay, 19, is understood to be courted by Sunderland and Derby County.

Gers’ B Team boss David McCallum said: “While it is always disappointing to leave a club like Rangers, I have no doubt each and every one of the lads departing for pastures new will forge a strong career in the game and we will continue to keep an eye out for them.”

They are the latest to move in a season of change at Gers.

Ibrox fans said farewell to Scott Arfield who left at the end of his contract along with first team stars Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent, Allan McGregor and Filip Helander.

Steven Davis was among those to pay an emotional tribute to the Canadian international while ultras group the Union Bears led banner send-offs for the stars.

Loan deals for Malik Tillman and James Sands have also seen the duo leave and Michael Beale has admitted Glen Kamara will ‘probably’ be sold this summer.

Malky Thompson is also leaving his role as woman’s team boss which all points to a significant revamp going on within the Light Blues’ ranks.

The transformation even stretches to the boardroom too and John Bennett has replaced Douglas Park already as chairman and current commercial and marketing director James Bisgrove is transitioning into the chief executive role while Stewart Robertson enters his final month in the post.
